This just happened to me. My wife just had an exhibition. After the exhibition, one of her batch mates asked to take pics with her. He knew I was just there and he put his arms around her shoulders and she let him tho she was uncomfortable. I wasnt happy about it coz I felt it was disrespectful and she should have just brush his arms off. Btw, we are all asians. Am I over reacting?

Not a friends, just someone in the same batch. She doesnt know him all that well ..... and I just told her that I was not happy with it ..... I didnt kick a great fuss over it.

if ur wife wasn't comfortable u r not over reacting. Tell her that she should stop such people if she doesn't like it. no fun in entertaining people if u r not comfortable.

they were taking a picture, you said he is a friend? Just because he is male means nothing give your wife some room to breath.
If he was touching her in an inappropriate way then yes you could have a problem but it sounds like it was just a friendly thing to do for the photo.
your married to your wife she belongs but this does not mean you should keep her on a tight leash.
relax

I'm not too knowledgeable about asian culture but i do think that what he did was out of line. Maybe he was trying to snub his nose at you (since he knew you were there) or perhaps just a blithe idiot who got caught up in the moment. either way you should not let it happen again. just take him aside for a moment and say "i would appreciate it if you weren't so touchy with my wife, it made her uncomfortable, thanks". that should do the trick.

It would have been more disrespectable if she had made a scene in public.. She handled it with grace and class, in my eyes....sounds to me a bit of a pissing contest going on with this man because he knew she was uncomfortable and he knew you would feel upset...
Can you two casually confront him -together - and let him know this is not to happen again...was very disrespectful to both of you...no matter what culture !

He shouldn't have done it,though he probably didn't mean anything by it, I too don't like any male acquaintances putting their arms around me,your wife was being polite but she needs to put her foot down if it happens again.

In my culture, it would not been offensive unless he made comments or touched her inappropriately. Putting an arm around someone's wife, to me, does not constitue disrespect in any way.

your only over reacting if you got totally irrate or actually made this a serious matter. (sexual harressment) umm, other than that you totally have the right to feel like your personal box of space has been trespassed. but it's not that big of a deal dude!

I guess it's right to be uncomfortable and things like that...but let's just forget the first time and if the same guy did that again to her maybe you should talk to him..

Its cool if it was just for a picture but he shouldnt be caressing her or anything. Be cool but not too cool about the situation otherwise he'll peg you for weak and may overstep his boundaries.
