The Program for the Wireless connection does show on the show connection or in bottom right programs. I am on a ship with at less 10 people who has a laptop with no probems. Could it be a software probem I have updated drives and done restore?Defective adaper migth be it but worked fine for 8 Months. Guess call HP when I get home.

Look for the switch for the wireless adapter and be sure it is turned on. All HP's have an off on switch for the adapter. If it is turned off.. it wont work. (drove me crazy for weeks onetime so I have been there) The clue that it may be turned off is that the "icon" does not show up.

You can find where that is located by visiting the HP website and looking up the owners manual for your laptop model.

there are many possible reasons for that:
1. the wireless router is not "on" all the time. that is why you cant connect to it always.

2. the broadcom wlan adapter on your pc does not always power up on booting your pc. check wlan settings if you cant connect.

3. there are dead spots on your house/office so you cannot always get a signal from the router.

4. the router could be defective... or

5. your broadcom wlan adapter is defective...
