My view has been this:
I was firstly very sympathetic to the McCanns, awful having your child taken.
Then to learn, that they had actually left her & her siblings for meal with friends "a few yards away" was incomprehensible. At the moment i'm torn as to weather or not the parents had harmed her. On one hand, its possible. One could be covering for the other, who knows what they were like as personalities before this, I know my doctor is a hard nosed b!tch! On the other it could have been exactly as they told it. She was snatched whilst sleeping.
Obviously, not being a parent who would do this, all the questions started to come. Reading other peoples questions and perspectives hasnt necessarily changed my opinion, but its certainly given me food for thought.

Damn fine question
The answer's no...this is where I come to get some perspective, away from the fawning adoration and unquestioning sympathy that has been the attitude of the British press...although this is shifting
It's like Diana all over again, until recently the press didn't seem to be reflecting what people that I know were saying: i.e. that there was something fishy, and that the McCann's should be sympathised with but at the same time held to account for their neglect, regardless of what happened to that poor kid.
I think that the most saddening aspect of it all is that the focus is no longer on that poor child, rather on the selfish parents.

I said when she went missing that something seemed odd about the whole situation - but I have also always said on YA! that I thought the main concern should be Madeleine, and that if the parents had a case to answer, it should be pursued when the child was found (hopefully alive, but it seems unlikely now).
If anything, YA! has made that viewpoint stronger, because it has always seemed that on here people are only capable of thinking "inside the box" i.e. the parents were either 100% guilty (despite there being no evidence at that point) or 100% they were simply victims of a terrible situation.
I don't have a confirmed opinion on Kate and Gerry McCann, because I don't know all the facts and it is not my place to comment. As is everyone's right in this country (or should be) - innocent until proven guilty.
Nothing I've seen on here has made me think any differently.

I have said the same from day one. They didn't have anything to do with her murder/death/disappearance. They were neglectful to the fact that they were not there when she was taken but they didn't have a hand in it.
I've seen some people on here jump from pro to anti and they have been influenced by what has been said on here and on Portuguese & English websites.
17pdr, what I do for a living makes me 100% certain that the Portugese police have got this wrong about the specks of blood in the car. Dave S asked a question and I was able to answer the question and give other facts that anyone who works in the same line as me would know. I can't be bothered to go through it again so go and find his questions. It should be easy as he asks so many.
I won't change my mind even if they are charged by the Portugese police. The evidence in the car is not enough for a body that has been laying around for five weeks.
Anyhow, I'm off to work for a few hours. So, until we meet again my arch nemesis

I've only got into the yahoo answers page and have been so shocked about the amount of Mcann stuff on here.
It hasnt changed or swayed my view of the case but it has changed my view of people out there. I am sickened by the amount of disgusting, terrible things people are saying. I cant believe that people can be so cruel.
I'm not an "i live in a rose tinted world" kind of person but how can people say these awful things? Fine have theories, ensure the parents are investigated, but people bear in mind - criminal profilers say that in cases like this the child will have been abducted by a paedophile and will probably still be alive. What will be happening to her is unthinkable. If that is possible then if these people put as much effort into finding her as they do into slating the parents she'd have a much better chance of getting home.

My viewpoint has not changed, i feel that if they are innocent they must be going through hell but at the same time they left three very small children alone. I just cant get my head round drs doing that. I also think that if this had been any other 'class' of parent the parents would have crucified them.
These children were exposed to several risks - not less a pool that they may have left room and decided to go and play in. They might have choked, fallen out of cot etc etc.
Social work should be involved like they would be if any parent was responsible in one way or another for childs disappearance.

If we want to be honest about this, we have to admit that there is a huge difference between the Lindbergh's abduction and whatever happened here. On the first case, things were, within certain boundaries, simpler: A baby was gone and there was nobody to hate for that except the one who took it. This is completly different. These parents were negligent. That is more than proven. That was the main reason why they left Portugal: Not to see the inside of a Portuguese jail. Because they confessed to the facts that would substantiate such an accusation, trial and conviction. The Portuguese Police didn't charge them with that... but they got a whiff of it...and off they went. Just to clarify the "neglect" issue. Under Portuguese law, by Portuguese Penal Code, on its article 138, nº2, parents should be placed under the "arguido" status for the crime of abandonment with eventual (non intentional) damage. The fact that they weren't prosecuted for that in England proves nothing else than the fact that British courts have no jurisdiction on events which took place in Portugal. The fact that they weren't prosecuted for that in Portugal, where it would have been an easy trial, with a 100% certainty of a guilty verdict, because all the facts on reference to that crime are established and admited by the couple itself, shows nothing more than human solidarity and decorum from the Portuguese Judicial System. The parents displayed a demeanour that doesn't sit well with a lot of people, me included. I've seen a lot of people in despair. I've seen a lot of people from whom their loved ones were taken. I know that everyone is different... but only until a certain extent. We all share a common reference grid. They are completly off that grid. And then there's the issue of one not being able to not think about the hundreds of children who go missing every year, taken from loving and careful parents, and who don't receive an ounce of this media carnival. Oh yes... the media... It was disgusting to see how things got so out of hand as vile insults being directed at a whole nation who was out on the street looking for the girl, organising pilgrimages to Fatima, and so on... Disgusting. Basically, the dimension this case achieved lies on the fact that there are some key factors here. For everybody, someone to suffer and care for: Madeleine For somebody, someone to hate: her parents For somebody, someone to laugh at: Clarence Mitchell

No, my viewpoint on the case itself has not been changed. The McCanns are innocent until proven guilty and I still hope, though I fear it will not be the case, that Madeleine will turn up safe and sound and be returned to her family.
My view of humanity has been challenged though; I've been shocked and disgusted by the ignorance, bigotry and hatred shown in many of the posts on here.
I doubt I'll get best answer ;o)

My view point changes with what I hear on tv and read.... I still keep an open mind though, because until there is solid proof about anything, I can't condemn the parents, although I remain suspicious of them.
I have many questions, but of course nobody to answer the question (I Know I'm on Q&A..lol)...I mean police questions.
It's easy to put a story together with the snippets, but of course this could easily be so wrong, and unless spoken about with others, you can't get another opinion.
It's best to wait and see..

With the media not getting right questions answered by the police and the silly way the police have gone about this whole case, with the fact that if they had killed or whatever their daughter why did they not leave sooner, and that thepolice have allowed them now to leave the country, my views are the same, you are innocent unless otherwise proven guilty, that guilt does not seem to be hanging around now and when i saw them on tv last night im more than sure they are innocent. God help the soul of whoever has taken that girl away or murdered her, they are damned to hell
