My question has nothing to do with with its literal meaning but everything to do with what the general pubic contrue from this very simple but terribly misunderstood term. Thanks again & take a chill pill please.

It means something that may be significant to a particular situation. Significant means important or likely to have a large influence or effect, probably caused by more than chance. Evidence is a thing helpful in forming an oppinion or something indicative, an outward sign. So it is pretty much something important that proves something else.

When a frustated investigator can't find any clear evidence at all despite giving all he/she got into the investigation.

So... Any evidence at all become a significant evidence.
