Note that is farther, not father, not farter.

It's the kind of word that is written a lot but how many people have actually used it while talking?

yes i have.
farther is the correct word when referring to physical distance. (if you're talking about farther vs. further)
i like how you knew people would read it wrong.

Yeah I'm sure I have. The question is, when is 'farther' appropriate as opposed to 'further'?? Man I hate stuff like that.

Nope. I use 'further'. Though I guess 'farther' isn't considered incorrect anymore.
