My goldfish does this all the time. Sometimes she'll have the pebble in her mouth for up to an hour. Don't panic. If it's gone in then it'll come out again.

As a last resort you could always get it out of the tank and place on a piece of wet kitchen towel and try to prise the pebble out with some smaller tweezers. It's probably safer just to let it spit out by itself though. If you take it out of the tank then you're risking introducing infection to the fish.

Hi, just seen this & hope I'm not too late-hopefully your fish has managed to spit it out. As an emergency procedure bend a paper clip straight, then bend one end round the shaft of a screwdriver to give you a little hook. Gently but firmly net the fish & hold it in the water with just its head poking out. Ease the paper clip VERY GENTLY in to it's mouth, round the stone & gradually ease it forward until it pops out. Don't worry if you fail the first couple of times-keep trying until it comes out.

You might want to invest in a pair of thin tipped preferably plastic tweezers for future reference or better still get rid of your gravel. This is very real danger with irregular pea sized gravel & deadly if left. It amazes me how people see their fish doing this constantly yet still refuse to change the gravel-one day it will get stuck for good & the poor thing will choke to death. small round 3mm gravel is good as all sizes of fish can happily pick this up & spit it out. Sand & aqua safe river rocks from garden centres are also good.

There is not much you can do...just wait it out....if the fish doesn't spit it out....there isn't anything you can do other than a "buriel at sea". I know that sounds harsh...but there isn't much you can do for a fish when it's that small especially.

Though you might do a google search real quick on goldfish..there are a lot of sites that talk about goldfish care...one may have a good idea for you to try.

Bowl fish will often pick up pieces of the fish bowl gravel in their mouths, and then spit it out. I don't know why.
