Or as the years went by, you realized how superficial it really was or is?
Like our society places way to much emphasis on appearances. And has your realizing the wealth of wisdom, life lessons and knowledge greatly outweighed over rated youthful looks?

First of all, what age is a Senior Citizen these days?
I have an AARP card but do not feel like a Senior Citizen. Life is so much easier today than the days of my parents.
I wouldn't redo any of my life if given the chance.
Wisdom and knowledge to me, outweigh the so-called innocence of youth, which is gone forever--early these days.
Am healthy, married, work, educated, friends, mobile (travel) and don't look my age. Won't retire until I want to, but am self-employed, and have a choice.

Yes I do but, it's not the vanity part at all. As you age your body changes. Old bones hurt. Knees and hips give out. Gnarled hands don't hold on to things well. An old spine becomes crooked. To fix the things that can be fixed is very painful and takes a long time to recuperate from. All these things affect our overall looks. Society DOES place too much emphasis on appearances and it IS all superficial in the long run because beauty is only skin deep and it's what's inside that counts. If I didn't have all those "itis" and "tisms" I could be quite content to sit on my derriere and smile smugly at the silliness of youth.

At 56, I enjoy the intelligence, wisdom and experience of the life I've lived. I would not trade what I know for a more youthful image. My hair is graying, who cares? Today, everything is about youth, sex and having every conceivable drug, excitement and living a phoney life. That is not what real living is about, dear.

What is so great about having a 'hot sexy body' if you are not wise enough to know that you must have responsibility to handle the consequences of bad actions? [do Paris Hilton and the others, who look "HOT" seem like they would be really good mothers? Would you have wanted Anna Nicole Smith as your parent and mentor? Not I. ]
Younger people seem to think that sex is what a marriage is alllll about. When two people love each other, you grow and you are best friends. If one person was 'handicapped' in one way or the other, the other who "loves" that person over looks that problem and loves them anyway.
When younger people have problems, who to they run to for truth, help and of course, $$ ... other young people who don't have experience? Nah! Appearances are phoney, dear. I'd rather be an old sturdy oak tree than a sapling that gets pushed over and bent at every little breeze.

I am told I am still good looking. I don't miss my youth, I have memories of it. Sure as we get older we get a little wiser, but looks aren't everything in life.
