I am thinking of purchasing a used PT cruiser. I would like some imput back as to how others fill or what you know about this vehicle. Likes, disikes, good and bad qualities, etc.

The biggest problems I have seen with these cars at the dealerships where head gaskets. I have replaced MANY head gaskets on these. Anywhere from running hot to oil leaking out of the back of the head. Other than that, No problems.

See the problem with the PT Cruiser is that it is almost an old car. and yet nothing like an old car. The Ford Tbird at least really looks like there old car. I am an antique car enthusiast and I went through a hard time limiting it to just one. My uncle wanted me to use his 39 Mercury, or 55 Chevy, my dad wanted me to use his 71 Ford. I have some friends that virtually have Jay Leno's collection--over 25 antique cars, most bought at Hershey. If you are into an old car, you'd want an old car. If you aren't into an old car, a PT Cruiser is too much like one for you. I wanted a convertible too for ease of pictures. I had two--a 56 Buick Special and a 58 Cadillac. Both were a beautiful coral which was really close to my wedding colors. I didn't have to worry about "decorating" b/c none of the groomsmen would have dared touch that nice of a car. The problem with a PT is its just a normal car--not a Rolls or a limo or even a cadillac, it's just a chrysler-- and I'd think that chauffeur would spend the whole night trying to run people off of his car.

Alright, here's the deal. The PT Cruiser is a one of a kind car. It was designed as a retro looking car with modern appeal. It succeeded quite well. Yes, there are a lot on the road and will continue to be as there are more mods available for this car than any other. Gas mileage issues are true but I drove mine with a heavy foot and it really wasn't all that bad. I had an 04 Turbo GT with the high output and several mods to the car including exterior, interior and ECU. Chips gave it more horses as well as a Ram Air hood that was fully functional and added 20 HP with the AIR-AID intake system installed.
The car was a great car and I'd still have it had it not been for the Crossfire. I gave up my beauty for the latter but I still love them. So much so that my wife wants to buy a convertible.
No problems with oil consumption at all, none with anything that couldn't be fixed under the great warranty. I'm pleasantly pleased with the car and the room that it had. More configurations than you can ever imagine.
Go to a PT Cruiser show and talk to those that love them. I know you will be impressed as I was, the moment I set foot in the car.
Good Luck. Rick

I have a 2005 PT. I love it. My chief complaints would be: 1. The gas tank cover isn't tight enough for much dirt road driving, and 80% of the roads in Montana are dirt, I live on one of them, and dust gets into the little compartment where the gas tank is. I blow as much out with a can of air as I can before I remove the nozzle. I have talked to other owners who don't live on dirt roads, or travel them much, and they don't have this problem.
2. It does sit a little low to the ground and I really look out for potholes and dips and humps.
3. I recently hit a deer in my PT and would you believe it left no dents or broken windows or headlights? Only bumper damage, front and back.
4. It doesn't get as good a mileage as I had hoped. About 24 mpg.

I've had it a year, and it hasn't given me any mechanical problems at all, and I bought it used. I still love it. I'm a sucker for that retro look.

I love my Pt Cruiser it has lots of space and is very comfortable for backseat passengers very spacious....the only downside is the speed it doesn't really have too much get up and go but once it get going the speed on the high way is fine for me and i like to drive pretty fast....just bad when trying to hurry and merge if someone is driving slow in front of you though....i also love the fact that the seats fold down and that makes more room for me when i want to buy something big or when moving things from place to place.......

I thought when they first came out that they would have problems like the Neon, but I was wrong. They perform very well. And are very popular. However, you would think being such a little car, they would get good gas mileage. Wrong. You can drive a minivan and get far better gas mileage than the PT Cruiser. But minivans don't look as sporty.

I love mine!
It cheap on gas and if I need to double the HP I go to 4000 RPMs and my 2 turbos kick in. Also have a slap stick as well as it being being auto for the stick.
The only thing I don't like is I see so many out there now!
If they had an electric one I be all over it!!!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my PT Cruiser.
We bought ours used, it now has 120,000 miles on and is still doing great.
I dont think you can go wrong, just make sure its been taken care of.
My dislikes??? NONE
My likes, hmmm, many. One especially,we take out the seats in back and use it for cargo and our show dogs, it works great.
If we need the seats, easy to pop back in again.
Of course they can always be folded down, but removing suits us better.
Good gas mileage, great vision all the way around, very comfortable too.

Well, I would own another any day.

My wife and I rented one in Arizona

It was smallish and drove OK - gas mileage was what we expected

The only complaint we had was it was really underpowered in the mountains with the regular 4 and an automatic

If we were buying one we would get the Turbo with a stick shift

Why don't you rent one for a weekend and see how it works out for you - National Car Rental has them
