You aren't going to like my suggestion, but I swear it will work...let him cry it out, you can go in, make sure he's not stuck or uncomfortable, even rub his back. Don't give him the pacifier and don't talk to him. He's waking up for you, he knows you will come and comfort him...and give him the pacifier. If you don't pick him up or give him the pac he will eventually fall back to sleep...you can even try the mobiles that go off when they hear sound, they work wonders.

My daughter is also 4 months old and stopped sleeping through the night recently. When I asked the doctor her said that if she wasn't already in her own room she should be because she'll be lessed distrubed by small noises the parents make during the night, He also said that if she's taking naps lasting more than 3 hours at a time to wake her up and not to let her nap past 5pm because it starts to interfere with night sleeping. Not sure if any of those apply to you. Also we just started solids and I'm thinking that might be a reason, because they seem to coincide. The day we started feeding her cereal was the day she STOPPED sleeping through the night(makes no sense to me either)

at four months your baby should be feeding during the night.
And as soon as you think you understand the schedual, the baby will change. What is a dummy? whaterver, it doesn't sound safe
At the night feeding. don't make it party time. don't turn on tv or bright lights. No talking. Be very mellow as to not wake baby up too much. Keep it peacful and sleepy.

it seems that your baby is just looking for comfort. Has the sleeping arrangement changed where the crib is? If the baby is getting chilly at night, that could be waking him up or there might be new noises occurring that are waking him up. My little girl wakes up if a truck comes down the road in the wee hours, and I can usually just pick her up for a couple of minutes and she then falls back asleep.
Good luck!

That's really complicated....a doctor told us to never wake a sleeping baby and I agree with that so if he sleeps late naps, I would let him but yea, it makes the nightime harder. My daughter kept me up for five years and a feng shui consultant advised to switch her room because her room was right over the garage - we didn't really take that so seriously and when we eventually ended up switching her room for other reasons, she began to sleep through the night.
Allergies will still give her some trouble and I sprinkle some organic clove behind furniture, in the corners, and carefully around to block allergens. That really works.

If he's not on solids yet, he may be signalling you that he's ready. If he weighs more than 12 pounds, that's a strong likelihood. Or, he could be teething.. so his gums hurt... so he wants his pacifier...
Just hang in there with him... they cycle through so many things.. He's just doing what he needs to do. He'll settle in... again.. soon!

He is probably about to go through a growth spurt or developmental leap. Usually babies regress before they go forward. He should be back to normal in a week.
