At school I'm sitting by myself in one of my classes because I was late and that was the only seat left. Is it okay for me to walk across the room and ask to sit next to this other girl? I sort of know her from last year but not really well. I've been sitting by myself for a week but I don't want to anymore...
It's kinda awkward because she always comes in late and I don't want to walk up in the middle of class.

I say put yourself out there and sit next to her. If she is rude, you don't want to be friends with her. If she is nice, then you made a new friend. Good luck. I know sometimes it is hard to talk to someone new, but making the first move will usually work in your favor.

For me the only way is to come early and ask if I can sit next to her. And contact her on msn is great too, I mean it'll make thing not so awkward

Unless you have assigned seating why wouldn't it be OK. You need to get over it and if you can't try to be on time so you don't have to worry about it. Who knows you might even make a new friend by sitting by someone new everyday. That can't be a bad thing.

Nobody is gonna knife you if you sit next to them. I started my first semester of college 2 weeks ago, last week this dude I knew from school, but never really talked too came up and sat next to me, and we just talked about stuff from high school and whatever. It's alright, unless she's a total stuck up b!tch.

if you remember where in the room she sits, go and sit in the seat in the row next to it. that way, when you see her, you can either start talking to her or at least ask for help if you happen to get stuck in the assignment.
