I know the theory, ignition key to 'on', 2nd gear, get the car moving, release clutch and push accelerator.. but I just can't get the idea..

I looked around Youtube but wasn't able to find one handy. I'll see if I can make one without too much trouble in the next couple days.

Edit: Okay, made the video :) It's at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d07mJQVrXZ0

I definitely don't have that "TV Presence", so go easy on me :) It's my first Youtube video ever. I just uploaded it, so it might not be up yet either.

You can practice this without too much trouble or risk though. Find a nice, wide, open parking lot, maybe with a bit of a downhill slope. Get it up to 20 or 25 mph, put it in neutral, then click the key back to the Acc position (not the lock... that'd be a bad thing). Wait for the engine to spin down, and you'll be coasting.

From there, put the key back in the Run/On/whatever your car calls it and you'll be ready to go. Put the clutch in, and put it in second gear. You can use first, as the previous poster mentioned, but it tends to be a more violent jerk when it catches. It can be handy if you don't have a lot of room to work with (I've roll started my car in reverse before!). Then, fairly quickly let up the clutch and it should pretty much immediately catch. You'll probably want to give it a little gas, but don't floor it. As long as you're not going uphill, it shouldn't stall.

Lol.I was trying to review the steps in my mind as you were describing them.
Darn, when was the last time I helped push start a car?over 10 yrs ago.
I know that we kept on yelling at the driver to turning the key and step on the gas. It doesnt start right away. After a few tries, it miraculously rev ved up.
