Niccolo essentially argued that real politic based on self interest and the interest of the City-State where the all and totality of Political reality. In fact he went so far as to assert that a Rulers own feelings of morality must not interfere with the cold blooded and realistic ability to betray for the interest of the State. That lying was not a vice in the service of a greater good.
I would start by stating that all modern Nations in fact behave based upon Niccolo's maxims but pretend that they do not. Then give specifics, then generalize.
