Are you crazy? I was lucky if I got to go out of the house after dark. I was always in bed by 9 pm on weekdays and 11 on weekends. You have no idea how good you have it. Your have an awsome dad that sounds like he is willing to compromise with you. Maybe your friends parents could care less about them and don't give them bed times and you think your parents shouldn't give you one either. I have to say though you may not realize it now but when your 24 years old living on your own working and paying bills you will be glad your dad got you used to being on a schedule while you were young. If you have problems sleeping at night try not eating two hours prior to going to sleep and getting adequate exercise during the day.

Why don't you read while you're in bed? It will help to make you tired and you will be using the time productively as well. Are you saying that when your dad tells you to go to bed at midnight that you are so not tired that you lay in bed for hours before you fall asleep? It sounds like you need to have a regular bedtime so you can be awake at better times and asleep at better times. If you don't fall asleep until really late, what time do you sleep until in the morning? Once you start sleeping late, the cycle gets perpetuated and it's hard to break. You need to go to bed at a regular hour on a routine basis and then you will be able to fall asleep more easily. Do you have trouble waking up for school?

If you went to bed when you were tired you'd probably go after 12 and wake up around noon.
Adolescent sleeping patterns change when kids grow up. Your imposed sleeping times are not ideal from a natural point of view, but they are very reasonable from a practical perspective:
1) School starts around 8:30, not noon
2) It has been shown that children with sleep deprevation (as you are willing to give yourself by staying up late and STILL getting up early) do significantly worse in school.
So yes, your dad is cruel and insensitive, but he does have a point.
Try to wind down, start doing relaxing things an hour before you go to bed.

Are you kidding me. Midnight and 11pm is very late and as a 15year old that is extremely lenient. You should appreciate the fact that you are allowed to stay up that late and 9.30 on weekdays isn't too early either. I'm 25 and go to bed at 9.30 so at 15 count yourself lucky that you get to stay up late.
Its very fair and I wouldn't be complaining if i were you.
you do need 'a certain amount of sleep' and your dad is making sure you get it. If you can't sleep try a warm shower and read a book before going to sleep, this usually makes me tired enough to drift off.

I can relate to that...except the t.v, computer and phone was off limits after 9:30... but after a while my mom realized that she couldn't just tell us... so she showed us we needed to go to bed early. I remember when I stayed up until 6am and had to leave the house @ 7:30am... that whole day I was tired and tried to come home to sleep but my mom sent my butt back to school...

Try reading a book. It always makes me sleepy. You actually do need the sleep to do well in school. And if you do well in school you can go to college. And if you go to college you can get a good job. And if you get a good job you can make good money. And if you make good money you can make your own decisions. And if you make your own decisions you can go to bed whatever time you want too.

I think it's fair... more than fair...
As for laying awake at night... This is why we have MASTURBATION! Get with the program.
'Cause when you get older, you're going to fall to sleep after sex anyway. Get the practice while you can!
