I've read through the new guidelines, and yes I know it says no chatting. I wish this rule was made a bit clearer.
Last week a couple of people suggested I was using seniors page as my own personal blog. ( which I don't think I was)
It has a feature to add details, so if someone made a comment, I added details to interact with them.

So my question is: Do you think yahoo do class replying in added details as chat cos loads of people seem to do it and they don't get their q's removed?

Please don't any one report this q as a rant, I'm just trying to understand the rules.

I think the new guidelines are mainly in response to suggestions made by YA users attempting to put an end to the aggression and abuse found in certain categories, where there's a tendency towards hate campaigns, and has definitely become a nuisance. Even makes me angry and at least you weren't being nasty.

We can only hope they still makes allowances for personality, otherwise there'll be an awful lot of oops and whoops on the YA doormat, until we've all mastered the art of being a robot, or a dalek, that's if we haven't all been exterminated, sorry I mean reported and deleted.

I may be uncharacteristically (gosh!) pessimistic but it will probably still be the good guys who'll suffer and the bad guys allowed to carry on being abusive and aggressive.

Morning Sylv!! (oops a bit of chat there..)

I am the worst for 'chatting' I add comments to all my questions and edit most of my answers too, but I agree the guidelines are not clear on this.

However also as part of the change, people who report for no reason will be monitored so those trolls are a lot less likely to be around. Yippeeeeeeeee! and guess what?
NO violation emails for me ALL weekend!!

Watch them come flooding in now thick and fast........... !!

Sylvia...I found this link about chatting by following the community guidelines link (located on the bottom of every page in Yahoo Answers)....

http://help.yahoo.com/l/ca/yahoo/answers/abuse/guidelines-14.html

It helps clear up the rules on chatting just a little bit more.

Actually I think the guidelines are sensible (though I did recently get a violation which I didn't understand). A few supplementary comments are fine, but let's face it, this isn't a chat room.

Personally, I like the question & answer format.

I never understood the old guidelines Sylvia, so goodness knows what to make of the new, because as the others seem to say, if you follow them you still get violations, and regarding the violations, they totally mystify me,the open abuses i have seen both to individuals and on 360 is appalling. But tell me this please, If I ask a question then someone replying is conversing with me, so isnt that a violation?Regardless of adding details?

As far as I am concerned, this section is for Senior Citizens...the rest of this site is for everyone else. Those who are not Senior Citizens, and drop by here, are free to make comments as they see fit (some are just beneath contempt, others are real). If we want to use this as a more chatty medium, that is our business. You just chat away, dear...just always stick some kind of question into the chat...ok by me! I rarely venture outside this area anymore...it is nothing but an attack site for morons...If I could not write a wittier, nastier response than most here, I would fold up my keyboard and call it quits! Love and peace, Goldwing

On one of my question's, in the add details, I also replied to a comment. The person in question I thought, had use a name to try & get a rise out of me, he didn't, there was no other way to reply. We joked, we laughed, no problem. In some cases or maybe most, it saves people hitting the report button for the daftest things.

glad to see you back Sylvia (oops I did it again!)
i don't quite understand what all the fuss is about either.
I used to report if someone made racist or vulgar comments, but no more. they just create a new account and start over, so what's the point.
as far as "chatting" I wouldn't think that adding details would count, but I guess if you used their name and were posting added details directed at them personally it might.
don't see what harm that does either, this is a pretty slow and easy going section - if somebody else doesn't like it then they should just GO AWAY !!!
all my best to you and yours Sylvia glad to see you back
(darn it !! I did it AGAIN !!!)

Not as yet but I ve only skimmed thru them. I will give them a going over tho and see whats what.
I think you are right to use the details section because you sometimes need to clarify or explain yourself futher especially if someone has not understood your question and made a comment about it.

Welcome back sylvia, everyone was wondering where you were and missing you. Whoops my bad!!!
Don't sweat the small stuff, it's not the end of the world. Besides rules are meant to be broken. Carry on as you normally would, I know I will. It's just a computer site, it's not like the police are going to come knocking on your door and cart you away for 20 years. Chill !!!
