I've had a hysterectomy and have been told to have an annual pap smear--now I move to another part of the country and find new doctors and they make me feel as though I don't need to have one.
Doesn't a pap smear also check for abnormal cells along the vagina since I don't have a uterus &/or cervix?

Pap smears check for dysplasia or cancer signs of your cervix and uterus. Abnormal vaginal cells are checked for by sampling from the vaginal walls. If you didn't an abnormal pap smear before and your hysterectomy was not for cancer than you are fine w/o the annual.

You may want to ask your gynecologist what screens she thinks are best post-hysterectomy and how often she thinks they should be performed for you. Hope this helps :)

I have had a hysterectomy which included the removal of my cervix. I have been told by both GP and oncologist (canccer was not related to the hysterectomy) that there is no reason for me to have any further pap smears as there was no abnormality on my cervix and no-where for cervical cancer to now develop.

I guess it may depend on the reason for your hysterectomy and the biopsy findings.

I had an ultra sound because I found an abnormal lump in my breast. The doctor referred me to the xray clinic. When I had the actual ultra sound that was fine, but then the lady who did the ultra sound had to get the dr (that worked at the xray clinic) just to look over my breast.

The doctor made me feel as if I worried for nothing and that I wasted her time!?

Better to be safe than sorry. But the point is, doctors can make you feel like you are wasting their time, even when you aren't.

Don't worry about them, yes keep having them!
