"He kept his baseballs in just two drawers....." Or better: "He only needed two drawers to keep his baseballs in, but....." Your version is not so specific. "....worthy of inagurating....."? Rather a fancy way to say it, but probably justified if he was a serious baseball player or fan. Your proposed version is not grammatical. Better than either would be: "...birthday he thought he should inagurate a ....."
