Bought a wide screen 19" LCD recently, and noticably the picture quality improves but can't figure out what's wrong with the font, it doesn't display a soild clear alphabets like the CRT used to. I've tried setting display properties>appearance>Effects..> Clear type and uncheck drop Shadow. But those fonts still do not appear too solid good, could anyone help?
*The current font looks "smear" with shadowish black around the edges.

the native resolution for a 19" widescreen monitor is 1440x900. look for this on the resolution in display properties. if it doesnt exist, you will need to install the driver that comes with your monitor...

one thing to remember... LCD's cannot replace the display quality of the CRT's yet... (LCD are digital displays while CRT are analog displays. we are humans and therefore our eyes are analog in nature).

todays LCD technology is still in its infancy. for the next 10 years, LCD's will still not be able to perform as good as a CRT when it comes to displaying images. that is why professional photographers uses CRT on their professional works.

Make sure that the desktop resolution is set to the native resolution of the monitor. Typically 1440 by 900 for a 19" wide. If you do not have that resolution available, update the video card drivers. (Monitor drivers will do you no good.)

Make sure the refresh rate is at 60 Hz. LCDs do not flicker like CRTs, so anything higher than 60 is pointless.

Open up Notepad on your computer and fill the screen with H characters, then press the Auto Setup button on the monitor.

This should get you a screen that looks better than a CRT.

Have you done an auto adjust of your monitor there will be a button on the actual screen that will have a menu button on it or something try them all until u find it then you can look at the options and if you see auto adjust select it and it should fix your screen problem.
