Coverage by the mainstream media of the Larry Craig scandal confirms again that liberals love the sin and hate the sinner. They've got both the Idaho senator and the conservative values that he has supported in their crosshairs.
Democratic politicians, who now are quietly luxuriating in the Craig scandal and Republican Party woes, will tell us that what they're about is fairness, income gaps, two Americas and the poor.
Now suppose that the family values that they are so anxious to usher out the door are key to addressing these very issues that Democrats claim to be their concern.
In fact, they are.
The Census Bureau has just released its latest data on poverty in America. The intimate connection between family structure and poverty is undeniable.
Five percent of homes headed by married couples are poor. Over 35 percent of homes, seven times as many, headed by single mothers are poor.

MO - my kids have never been taught by a single mother "by choice". That lifestyle is one that I would not want my children exposed to by someone as important as their teacher so you would have NEVER taught my kids. We don't hire single moms "by choice" at our schools. I don't know of ANY.

RLP, I don't agree with your married poor statistic. I know many many people in our state who are married couples and struggle with both of them working full time and can at any time lose everything if one of them gets fired or becomes infirmed. Hell I am one of those people. My husband and I live week to week.
To get back to your original question, the Republicans who are being caught up in scandal show the hypocrisy that I think exists in the Republican party just as much as the hypocites in the Democrat party like Al Gore who tells everyone how to live while he lives as large as he wants to.
That's the thing. I and many others are tired of the leadership touting 'family values' or morality standards that they feel only applies to everyone but them. Like because of what they've accomplished they have 'earned' the right to do as they please while preaching to the masses!!
I say be what you say is right and good or keep your mouth shut and don't act so surprised and outraged when your hypocrisy shows you for what you really are!

The goal, the ideal objective of a Christian is to do what Christ did, or do what Christ would do. Jesus Christ proved his love for all men by dying to pay for the sins of all men, so that the relationship between God and man could be restored. Why would Jesus do that? God does not over look sin. He does not accept it as normal behavior and expects those who love Him to not practice a lifestyle of sin. Jesus didn't pussy foot around. If someone was doing something wrong, he told them; however He loved them enough to die for them. Christians can not agree that what is wrong, is right. We can love the person, or group of people who practice wrong. These are two different issues. Christians are human, and sin. It is wrong to degrade another individual. It is wrong to attack the character of another individual. It is not wrong to point out actions an individual does that is wrong. Since no one enjoys being told they are wrong, this can be offensive. This is why the Jewish leaders hated Jesus. They didn't want to be told they were wrong. God loves the sinner. He truly does. He doesn't love the wrong things done by the sinner.

I'm not a liberal, but I hate hypocrites more than anything else. I don't have a problem with people preaching family values. Ideally, having 2 parents in a loving and nurturing home increases the level of success a child has. No question about it. But when that same politician, regardless of party affiliation preaches family values and then looks in bathrooms for gay sex while MARRIED, I have a huge problem with it. I am Independent (not affiliated with Republicans or Democrats) but from what I see, Republicans love to play holier than thou in their politics but are the ones with drug problems or sex issues.
I don't care what they do in their personal lives. I don't care if they perform beastiality. I don't even care if they have made mistakes in their life as long as that politician has been good to their constituents. Just don't be a hypocrite.
PS.... I was a former registered Republican, but I was so sick of that party I left it to be an Independent. I also don't like the Democrats either.

Whoever it might be, Ideology in politics died with the men who started the parties, if at all it ever existed. After that it slowly moved with the world and became a scum floating on the moving water called society.
The more age a party gathers, more filthy it becomes. It is true all over the world. The later day politicians follow a pattern thinking which some times being projected as an ideological stand. But on a dive deep thinking we can easily understand it is false. Society has moved away from what it stood for once or visioned to move ahead once. It has kept changing the course.
Can't you understand, If "Sin" ever is legally allowed then "Sinner" can be loved too! Unexposed sinners hate exposed sinners. In that way what you have asked is perfect, "Loving sin hating sinners."

In case it has somehow been missed in your education, being poor is NOT a crime! In fact, being poor often leads to great integrity and strength. Being well-off or rich is NOT an indication that you have been moral or "good"; it could just be luck--OR, it could mean that you have taken advantage of others.
I don't know what your point is here; seems you've mixed the apples with the tomatoes. But, it doesn't surprise me that "single" parent homes are poor at a greater percentage than "couple-parent" homes. How could ONE person possibly make enough for a family to live on?
And what is your constant problem with the idea that some mothers are "single"?? Men die, they leave, they divorce, etc. etc. Also, some MEN are single parents. Then, too, we have those who are parents and single BY CHOICE! So what? If they can afford that "choice", why not go for it? (What kind of bigoted school system would refuse to hire "single" parents, thereby depriving them of the ability to earn the money needed to raise their children? How would this same school system decide which single parents were such BY CHOICE and which ones were single parents BY ACCIDENT?????? (Oh, and wouldn't "accident" be wrong, too?)

Now--how about ALL the facts. Craig committed a CRIME--andadmitted it. All the spin in the world won't change that. And the "relibious right" and "law and order" right wing are just shhowing their hypocrisy by trying to discredit those who point this out and by trying to excuse behaviour they claim to abhor.
As for your other comments:
The largest component of those single mothers you use as an aexample of "lack of family values" are in that position because their husbands have chosen to divore them--and the HIGHEST divorce rate in America is among the fake "family values" right. And it is the same right-wing that consistantly opposes and undermines lLIBERAL attempts to hold these so-called "men" who are running out on their families accountable.
The right has NO claim to being representative of "moral" or "family" values. They are hypocrites-jsut like Craig is a hypocrite. And I, along with millions of other Americans, am done with being intimidated by the fake Christians of the religious right and their self-righteous hypocrisy and lies.

It really doesn't surprise me that someone who can't think for herself would plagiarize a religiously biased article word for word, rather than come up with words of her own to express ideas about the issue. It also doesn't surprise me much that going to your link takes you to a website, www.townhall.com, that installs Spyware into your system... specifically "Avenue A, Inc." (good thing I use a program that lets me know of attempted registry changes). I'd advised anyone that went to this link to scan their computer for spyware.
Your statements against single parents shows your perverted and twisted ideas of morality. If Jesus were still in existence outside of the delusional imaginations of Christians, he would be ashamed and outraged that you claim to follow his teachings (which you don't... far from it). You and all of the other religious fundamentalists in this once-great nation should be shipped over to Iran to be with others of your kind. Perhaps if you had a taste of religious law in a land where your religion doesn't have political power you would learn to be tolerant of the beliefs and lifestyles of others.

Basically, I hate hypocrisy! If you're going to use your Bible as a weapon to beat people over the head with and yell and scream about family values, then abide by those family values, whatever they are. On the other hand, if you're not the type that has a pond-around telling everyone about your so-called family values, do whatever in hades you want!

Would you hire a young widower (lets say her hubby was killed in a freak accident)? Were she to have children that would make her a single mom...would you hire her?
What if our single mom was raped? And became pregnant. Would you cast scorn upon her if she choose to keep the innocent embryo?
What if our single mom fled an violently abusive husband for her sake and the kids? Is she a bad person?
And what if our single mom got pregnant at 21. Accidentally (only abstinence is foolproof). And knowing that she faced an uphill battle of work and school and raising a child alone...she kept him/her. Even though she knew people would hate and scorn her. She did the right thing...and raised this child. And earned her teaching certificate. And got a job.
Some mistakes in life are fatal. Others happen for not fault of our own (say, a 9-11 widow (who you of course hate and scorn as they are single moms)). Sometimes mistakes force us to face the unthinkable, the untenable or the impossible. Mistakes happen.
Judge not the mistake...but the persons response to it.

Oh that's some amazing statistics who woulda thunk it.. and your cupboard is full of Valium to make it through another day in your miserable perfect life... I don't even need a chart to know that...
Oh yeah those soldiers don't leave anyone behind except their children for others to raise.. I wonder where that chart is... how much beer and puss do they buy with that child support money?
General Patreios should be back in our Asian military bases hiring 14 year old girls as sex slaves for those hard workin sooldiers protecting us from N korean rice farmers.. like he used to before he had to run off to Iraq.. is that good patriotic Christian morals? Our soldiers can actualy kill a young girl and get away with it with the United states governments blessing...
