If it really is 1/5 homosexuals with HIV and this place attracts many homosexual tourists then the HIV virus could be rapidly spreading accross america- infecting many innocent (or not so) people. not to mention all of the STDs that are being spread around. Why would they want to keep us in the dark? Doesn't this show that something is wrong with Homosexuality- if so many people are dying- the avg. lifespan of a gay or bi man being 40 and decreasing steadily. What are your thoughts. I was flabbergasted.

Thanks for all of your input and opinions! I should clarify that I do realize that STDs and HIV/AIDS are a major problem with heterosexuals as well as homosexuals, but my question was about this certain region and how it seemed that the money inflow of the tourism and popularity of the town was more important than the deadly diseases being spread predominantly to homosexuals, but not only to them.

I question some of the pointed hatred to 'christianity' and the fact that christians pointedly hate homosexuals... but maybe that can be the topic of another question.

So thanks for all the feedback! It was enlightening as well as stimulating.

OOOOOOOOOHHHH and let me also clarify that I in no way want to kill or castrate anyone, but rather I would like to form in my mind how the massive HIV/AIDS epidemic could in some way be stifled- but I am having hardly any luck. I will inform you once I have come up with the cure to AIDS...........but don't hold your breath

Do you know how many straight people have STDs and yet continue to be promiscuous and have unprotected sex? A LOT. This is not a "gay problem". Straight people spread HIV and other STDs just as much as gays do. Funny how this guy does not go on to state his sources for where he got the "1 in 5 gay/bi men" bit, but he also fails to mention how many straights are infected with the disease in his city. How do you know that there aren't more straights infected with it than there are gays? Did you bother to look it up and see if his information is even accurate in the first place?

The problem has nothing to do with sexual orientation and which gender people are sleeping with. The problem has to do with people who treat sex as a casual thing and refuse to use protection, and straight people are just as guilty as gays in doing this.

I'm 25 years old, gay, and still a virgin. I believe that sex should only be between 2 people who love each other and are in a long term relationship, not something that's just solely for physical pleasure and shared between 2 people who just like each other or barely know one another. I think any pleasure derived from the act would be so much greater if LOVE were involved, so I choose to wait. It has nothing to do with my sexuality, but it has everything to do with my attitude. Meanwhile, pretty much every straight person I know that is my age has had on average 15-20 sexual partners in their life. If you think that sexuality determines a person's attitude about casual and unsafe sex, you're obviously sorely mistaken. Who do you think would be more guilty of spreading STDs: Me, a 25 year old lesbian virgin who believes love should come first, or my 25 year old straight friends who have sex with practically every person they go out on a few dates with (and occasionally one night stands)? If you go with your bigoted way of thinking, you'd probably say me just because of the fact I'm gay.. If you use your brain, you'd know that in this case it would be my straight, promiscuous friends.

HIV is spreading most rapidly in the straight population. Homosexuals know what cause it and protect themselves.

Just more discriminatory propaganda meant to inflame the masses. Had you been alive 50 years ago you could have read many of the same statements made against blacks, 30 years before that the Jews, before that Asians.

Whenever someone wishes to force everyone to believe what they believe they attempt to scare them into following their lead. It is usually a good tactic too, after all look at Christianity, millions of followers who believe because they are scared to think that this life is all you get.

And, just to set the record straight, HIV is spreading most quickly in Africa for two reasons. Lack of education (money & training) in an highly uneducated population and the religious doctrine that sex is only for procreation and so condoms are wrong.

Considering the article was about a politician and there appears to be a religious connection as well, I would not believe it.

I would rely more a hospital's statistics or the Center for Disease Control.

No, it does not show something is wrong with homosexuality. It shows that illnesses kill people, especially contagious ones. Remember the 1918 influenza? Remember polio? Tuberculosis? Those were all contagious - much more so than AIDS.

However most article like this are biased. What they fail to mention is that straight people do the same thing, that straight adult go out have sex with some one else that is not their partners and have unprotected sex too.
Don't just believe what one man says, do the research on your own too. Not all gay people spread the disease. Infact HIV was spread the first time around with some one who is straight that eventually ended up with some one who is bisexual and ended up with a gay guy.

So what do you suggest, killing gays? Castration?
I would like to point out that straight people can transmit AIDS too. This problem would not be nearly such an epidemic if society didn't have the Christian religion, the same people who are condemning gays out of hatred and fear, promoting ignorance by trying to restrict access to birth control and promoting abstinence education (which has been shown to be incredibly uneffective, the bible belt has the highest teen pregnancy rate of anywhere in the US).
Homosexuality isn't the problem, unsafe sex is.

If you check with other, less stilted, news sources, you will find that they report on a discussion with the fort Lauderdale cheif of Police. He stated that their records show little to back up Mayor Naugle's anti-gay rants, and that arrests for "bathroom sex" as the mayor calls it have been at a minimum.

I, as a Christian, can not put judgment on homosexuality. Jesus taught us to love one another unconditionally. All I know in my heart is Love and that is what I will practice. Did Jesus mistreated or discriminated against the leprosy? NO!
GOD BLESS! AMEN! SHALOM!
