does keeping your fan on all night long waste a lot of electricity?
like the ones on the ceiling?

Mine uses about 100 watts. That is 2.4 kilowatts per 24 hours. My electric company charges around 9 cents per kilowatt. So my fan costs less than 22 cents per day to run 24 hours. Your electric rate may be more or less than mine. Look on your bill for your rate.

As others have answered it doesn't waste electricity if you use it instead of an a/c or to help prevent lowering the temperature setting.

I looked at how much electricity is consumed by ceiling fans and have the range of 10-50 watts per hour.

If you use the fan for 8 hrs. @ 50 watts = 400 watts consumed.
We pay for electricity in kilowatt-hours (kwhs). One kilowatt-hour is the equivalent of using 1,000 watts for one hour or using a 100-watt light bulb for 10 hours.

2 1/2 nights = 1 kwhr.
My rates are approx 11 cents per kwhr.

I'll let you figure out how much per month.

That's the best answer I can give.

Ceiling fans consume very little electricity, especially at their lowest setting.

Most ceiling fans consume about 10 Watts on “Low”, a little more than a night light. By comparison, light bulbs are 60–100 Watts; your computer is about 400 Watts. You pay for electricity by the kWh, that is 1,000 Watts per hour. So that’s 1 kWh for every 100 hours of use.

If you are a conservationist, use your ceiling fan anytime you heat the room and anytime it can replace the A/C and still keep you comfortable. That’s when I run mine.

No, a desktop computer uses more electricity than a ceiling fan, so does a television. I find leaving the ceiling fan keeps my home cooler than if I didn't have them on during the day.

Fans are used to circulate the air, which does two things, one is help keep the air in the room more consistent in temperature and the other is by moving air across your body, increases evaporation and heat loose on your skin which makes you feel cooler. So while fans use electricity, they are cheaper than running the AC all of the time.

It means leaving the lights on or the TV or radio or anything that uses electricity on when you aren't using it. Remember that SOMETHING has to power your electricity. It could be nuclear power, it could be coal or another fossil fuel, so really when you are wasting electricity you are wasting an energy source that is potentially damaging to the environment.

Circulating the air in a room makes the air conditioner more efficient. You use a little bit of electricity to save a lot by preventing the A/C from cycling on and off.

Not really. In fact if it is helping to keep you cool to the point where you can turn the thermostat to a higher temperature then it's saving you money. AC cost a lot more to run.

They are constructed to use minimal electricity. Compared to running a heater or an air conditioner....they use very little electricity.
