When my son was two months old my doctor recommend that put rice cereal in his bottle so he would be satified longer. He is now 17 months old and on whole milk is it ok to still put rice cereal in his bottle?

If your son still likes rice cereal, I dont see why it's not ok to give it to him. With all the picky eater toddlers out there, eating infant rice cereal is better than eating candies, cookies, chips, and soda all day.

By this age he should be starting to use a spoon ( my son was a preemie and using a spoon by 12 months corrected age), so his cereal should be in a bowl. At 17 months they should be off the bottle and at least using a sippy cup, so the cereal might not be good for that because it will not go through the valve.

It is perfectly ok, and actually healthy for them. The bigger question is why you would want to go back to it? Is he not satisfied between meals? There must be a reason why you would want to go to the trouble of buying rice cereal and supplementing his bottle with it.

Here's my suggestion....If you have concerns about his diet, check with your pediatrician or just give them a call and ask them about it. If he isn't eating enough, there may be something else wrong. If he is eating too much, there may be something else wrong. You owe it to the kid to get this checked out.

Hope this helps! :-)

I was a pre-school teacher and some of my 27 month old parents were sending infant cereal with their kids and they said their pediatricians' recommended it. Their kids weren't eating regularly so that was supposed to help them get and stay full longer! I don't see why YOU can't!

I guess, although I would think he would be old enough to have his rice in a bowl with other solids and perhaps drink his milk separately in a sipper cup (or bottle if that is the only way he prefers).
