I am starting a compost pile. Can I include morillonite clay? Thanks.

There isn't any reason to put any type of clay in your compost pile. The materials that you want to put in the pile should be easy to turn and help keep the pile from compacting.

Clay is not usually something that goes in compost piles. Why would you want to add it? Minerals? All the minerals plants need are in the dead plant bodies. And the CEC of clay is not any better than the CEC of decomposed organics. Just let th plant material cook down well. A little clay wouldn't hurt, but too much will cause problems.

Organics only in the compost pile, use no clay.
