why people seem to enjoy things more when they know a lot of other people have left been out on the pleasure?

Great question!!

Since good things are rare in this world, we suffer from an inherent sense of deprivation or insecurity. Having had the experience of the scarcity of good things, we learn to define it in the reverse as well... meaning we believe something can be good only if it is scarce as well... that is why we enjoy only when we know that a lot of other people missing the same enjoyment.... if everyone can have it, then it is not a desirable or valuable enjoyment.

For some silly reason every girlfriend I've ever had...

the pride of life.
the feeling of exclusivity gives people a sense self-worth.
we humans are suckers for it.

It makes them feel like they are "special ones" and everyone wants to feel special...that is the basic need for every human....to be needed, to be loved, and to be special.
