Stores like circuit city, or best buy. It seems that to go through months of surveillance videos to find out what happened to a laptop or camera would be too cumbersome. Think about it, all those cameras, and you have to check each one's recordings. Or, do these stores outsource these tasks to different companies? It seems to me that surveillance videos are more of a phsycological deterent than a real phorensics tool, but what do you think, or know?

stores DO CHECK surveilance videos regulary--Believe me I KNOW. Not long ago, I was a front end manager for Target and was personally acquianted with the head of security. They call it Asset Protection. Whenever there was an issue, they checked the videos to see what happened and who did what. I was sometimes in his office where he and his assistants watched live camera feeds most of the time. At other times, someone is routinely watching the cameras as tapes are made, so if you are planning any "bad things" ...DO NOT. Or, smile for the birdie--don't do the crime if you cant do the time, because they WILL PROSECUTE.

Bet on it! I did when I owned my retail stores. I had security teams on the monitors ALL the time... looking for folks that thought they could steal from me. I prosecuted EVERY case... every time... no matter what... no matter who... to the fullest extent of the law.
