Usually pediatricians recommend babies get breast milk for one year, during which time other foods are introduced as well. Babies tolerate mother's milk the best, then the different formulas, and then cow's milk. Cow's milk was meant for cows. Breast feeding gives the newborn a lot of antibodies so the baby can fight off infections once born.
Some women, however, cannot breast feed for various reasons. If that is the case, just go on to formula or cow's milk as your pediatrician/family physician suggests.
Dont get hung up if unable to breast feed. Have known an occasional woman who has breast fed until 2-3 years, but that is unusual. You can pump your breasts and put into a baby's bottle if you want, and can freeze it for later.

What's regular milk? Mother's milk is regular milk.
If you're talking about formula, baby won't need it if mom breastfeeds until the child no longer wants to nurse (age 2-4).
If you're talking about cow's milk, baby/toddler/child/adult won't ever need it. Cow's milk is for baby cows, not humans. Soy or Rice milk is better for humans, if a "milk" must be taken. It's actually more nutritious than cow's milk and has all your Vitamins, Minerals, Calcium, even Protein that's in cow's milk. And I'm thinking around 1 for Soy milk, and around 6 months for Rice milk.

12 months. One should not give cow's milk to a baby under the age of 12 months due to allergy issues. Plus a baby needs breastmilk at least 12 months IF NOT BEYOND. Once my daughter turns one, she'll get 1 cup of cow's milk a day and she will be nursed as well. It is important for a baby to be given cow's milk at a year even if the mother is still nursing. :) Hope that helps.

breast milk until age one before they can have milk. If you wean from the breast before they are a year they should have formula until thier 1st birthday. Babies cannot digest milk until they are at least 1.

babies need breastmilk or formula until they are one, then you cna switch to cow milk, although many mothers (like me!) choose to breastfeed after the age of one.
