The impeachment hearing was an legislative attempt to remove Clinton from office. Yes, even though he was acquitted he was only the second president to be impeached.
Separate from the impeachment, Clinton was found guilty of lying under oath. As punishment for perjury, Clinton was disbarred and is no longer able to practice law.

Clinton was disbarred for 5 years by the Arkansas State Bar Association, providing that federal charges of perjury were not made. Rather than face being disbarred from the Supreme Court Clinton resigned, thereby becoming the first president to ever resign from the supreme Court.
EDIT Update:
Litecandles, someone blew out your flames, Clinton was IMPEACHED by the House of Representives, not the Senate so he was allowed to stay in office
Renee70466 You have been corrected. (please read the link)
That_guy_over_there
Actually bud, Clinton is the first criminal to serve as President,
had Jimmy Carter not granted pardons to all of the draft dodgers Bill Clinton would never have been able to run
EDIT: Note to Niki, sorry to disillusion you but Bill Clinton was impeached in 1998, Bush became President in 2000, please read the first link below. If you are going to give out information at least be kind enough to do some research so that you give out CORRECT information.
Note to Voice of the...
No being acquitted in the Senate does not annul the impeachment in the house, ask Andrew Jackson, the only other President to have been impeached, he also was impeached by the House and acquitted in the Senate, by a single vote mind you. In order to be removed from office you have to be impeached by both House and Senate.

The two are entirely separate but related events.
Impeachment is the first step in a process by which a public official is removed from office. It is merely the process of bringing charges as to why the official should be removed from office. In the case of President Clinton, after a trial on those charges, the U.S. Senate (the body that conducts the trial) decided that the charges did not warrant removal from office.
Disbarment has to do with the fact that President Clinton also happened to be licensed as an attorney in the State of Arkansas (and like many licensed attorneys -- including most state attorney generals which is how President Clinton got started -- was admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court). While the Senate did not feel that the offenses of President Clinton were serious enough to remove him from office, the Supreme Court of Arkansas and the U.S. Supreme Court did feel that they were a sufficient violation of the strict rules of behavior that govern the practice of law to justify revoking his license to practice law.

Clinton replaced into impeached. Impeachment is bringing a can charge against the president and proposing it to the senate. It does not propose that the guy replaced into far flung from workplace, purely tried in the previous the senate. i do no longer understand what disbarred ability and that i'm too lazy to look it up. I digress: extramarital affairs is a morality difficulty, this is not any one else's employer however the events in touch. comparable is going for Clinton. mendacity to the rustic is a lots distinctive rely, even over something so effortless and somewhat frankly no person else's employer. Hypocritical for me to declare this, effective, because of the fact I won't doubt that Bush in effortless terms spouts truthiness (0.5-truths). the adaptation is regardless of if or no longer those issues come out on the record and below oath.

Because he lied in front of a grand jury. I do not understand what you are questioning. He should have had his license suspended for life. He was the President of the US. He should be held to the highest standard of law, and should have received the maximum sentence for perjury.
litecandles...you really need to look up the facts. Clinton WAS impeached!
nicki...you REALLY need to check your facts before you answer. Clinton WAS impeached and it was in his second term, so he did not run after the impeachment. By the way...the 91 IQ is an urban legend...check the link below

He wasn't impeached by the senate and only republicans voted to impeach him. It was a total bipartisan vote. It wasn't even a good reason to impeach a president. Impeach a president for getting a ******** wow .I would have loved to be him. Most guys seen him as a hero. He was president of the most powerful country in the world for 8 years and got blow jobs while serving. I say great job Bill. I would vote for him again if law allowed it. Everyone had jobs, and national debt was down. 57% of Americans didn't want him impeached. One of the best presidents the USA has ever had.

Does seem odd a lawyer would be disbarred for lying.
I guess they make a distinction for lying under oath.
Sorry litecandles, Clinton WAS impeached, just not convicted. Nixon was never impeached, he resigned because he knew the Dems had the votes to both impeach AND convict him. JFTR the GOP knew they didn't have the votes to convict Clinton. His impeachment was most likely a political quid pro quo for Nixon.

Even the libs know that slick Willie was disbarred. They just don't want to deal with the facts. HE WAS DISBARRED BECAUSE HE BROKE THE LAW, lucky jerk, he got away with something that the rest of us would have been put in jail for. Those condescending liberals keep talking about "it was all about sex". They would not face that he was convicted and punished for lying about Paula Jones and denying her a day in court. There was obstruction, intimidating witness's to lie, etc, etc, etc
Nicki, ding, ding, ding. He was impeached, period and big period. He was not forced out of office, true, but, HE WAS IMPEACHED

Lying under oath, which Clinton did, is a felony. Felons are not permitted to practice law in the United States.

For your information Bill Clinton was not Impeached , he ran and won another term. He was impeached only in the house not the Senate that counts he finished that term out and won another term. You always have so many questions about Bill Clinton why don't you look at the pitiful 91 IQ moron we have in office now that can't read write he never won any term he stole 2 terms. Since you know so much about Clinton why once in awhile don't you get your question right.
I don't like to read BBC.Co.UK/I I'm only interested in what my country Politicans do not UK. Did also read where Tony Blair was Bush's lap dog. Set in his lap licking his face.grinning from ear to ear.
