My favorite band is QUEEN. It has been since Feb. 14, 1974 when I first heard them. I had never heard anything like them before. My god! That voice! That spine tingling voice! The guitar! It was like liquid sound pouring out of the speakers. The bass! The most rhythmic bass I had ever heard...or heard since! Oh my god! The drums! So steady, strong, and powerful. It all gelled together into the most amazing music I had ever heard. To this day, whenever I hear the beginning riff to "Keep Yourself Alive" I feel as if it's the first time. I never grown tired of it. Freddie's voice is still one of the most incredible voices I have ever heard and is one of the top ten vocalists of the 20th century. Brian May ranks 39th in Rolling Stones top 100 guitarists. John Deacon wrote some of the most memorable songs the band produced. Roger Taylor, through his songwriting efforts is now one of the richest men in England! I think they have stood the test of time and will continue to remain a major influence in rock music for many years to come!

Not even talking about the personality and the social life of the band, Pearl Jam provides great songs combining attractive lyrics and great musics. But the best about this band is their live performances. The guitar play changes radically from a sow to another (riffs and solos) annd the drums are great. The band got also an incredible and special contact with the crowd (some cases to see: Porch @ Pink Pop 92, It's OK @ Jones Beach 2000, Betterman @ Madison Square garden 2003...) . They're doing great stuff on stage... Eddie called once Neil Young on the phone and asked the crowd to sing Happy bDay to him. There's also this good habit about putting 'tags' on songs (some songs are like stories changing from a performance to another...)
I just can't stop talking about them.

I'd say the answer depends on the genre of music. Classic rock, for sure, should rely most on the rhythm guitar. The bass should hang off the well-established rhythm and be a bridge to the percussion. The lead guitar should augment the vocals and be a second "voice" as the song travels along.
Jazz is all about horns and improvs. Classical music is an amazing blend of everyone doing their own thing and yet to the untrained ear sounds like one cohesive tune.

Have you heard of Muse? Most people, especially Americans, have never heard of them. but their huge in Europe and UK. i love them because their songs are unique, different from other bands, even though their music is Alternative. They have a good vocalist and their songs are just mindblowingly awesome. Love their guitar riffs, basslines, everything bout them. their past albums, especially Absolution, are some of the best stuff from the 90's and 00's. plus they're amazing when they play live, that's proven by the numerous best live band awards they've won.

Iron Maiden is my favorite band and have been for 25 years now. They appeal to me because they have amazing lyrics in most of their songs (Revelations, Hallowed Be Thy Name, Paschendale,etc..) and they also write about things that appeal to me (literature, history, wrong doings, poems, war, etc...). Their songs can range from straightforward metal (like Number of The Beast) to progressive metal (like the Seventh Son album).
They also have amazing live performances- they are high energy and know how to get a crowd going. Even after over 30 years of being together they manage to put out some great albums and still tour pretty extensively.

I discovered my favorite band in 92'. I was attending college in San Luis Obispo, CA..meanwhile working at McDonalds to make ends meet. I remember not having a car at the time and having to walk three or four miles to work at five in the morning. One of my managers loaned me a mix tape one night after closing that had Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Nirvana and some unknown band called Pearl Jam on it. I gave it a listen on my walk to work the next morning. What I remember most about that was watching the morning fog lift off the San Luis hills while Vedder was slowly building to the peak of "Release". The song kind of exposed the animosity I had been feeling for MY father for years and let them go. It helped me forgive him for things I thought I'd never let go of.
They were my favorite band for a few years... but we grew distant around Vitalogy and No Code... In 2000 I decided to give them another shot, and bought Yield and Binaural. Then I attended my first of 12 live shows in San Bernandino, CA. I was floored...not only at the musical ability of the band, but at the whole experience. Pearl Jam fans are the best on earth.

I like Zeppelin's chemistry and the raunchy guitar riffs that Jimmy Page created with his Les Paul.

Now THIS is a good question. The answer you usually get out of most kids is "I dunno."..except for the MCR fans, who'll say "They get me" or "I like their message".
This oughta be interesting to see....
Anyway, Favorite band(s)- Beatles & Rush
The Beatles were the 1st band I got into on a deeper level. I was around 9 or so. (& this was years after the Beatles broke up). I think it was their consistently good melodies & diversity that got my young ears. Every song had something different to offer.
It wasn't until I was introduced to Rush & Yes, that I started listening more closely to musicianship. Those guys changed the way I listen.

My favorite band, Meg & Dia, are amazing because most of their songs are inspired by books. "East Of Eden" by John Steinbeck inspired their song "Monster," the book "Rebecca" by Daphne DeMaurier inspired their song "Rebecca," and "Mary" by George Sand inspired their song "Tell Mary." I really love reading too, and I've read a lot of the book that inspired them, so it's really cool to see how the songs and the books all connect together.
Also, Meg & Dia are just plain awesome musicians. They're only in their 20-somethings, so they have a lot to learn, but listening to their first album Our Home Is Gone (which is almost completely acoustic, and it's just the two of them, instead of a full band like now), you can tell they have a lot of talent. Another thing I like is that they write more than just about love. To be honest, anyone can just pop out a love song. Their song "Roses," my favorite, is about how we change our perception of morals to make it easier to do whatever we want. And "Monster" is about how unfairly illegitimate children are treated.
So yeah, that's why =]
