What is up with that? Am I wrong for thinking that if you don't care enough about the USA to learn the language you shouldn't be voting? Isn't it written in the Constitution somewhere that you have to be a citizen to vote? What the hell is going on here?

You can't tell me illegal aliens aren't voting. This is pandering to them in my opinion. Do they give the citizen test in Spanish?

You got your thumbs down Eric. I'm not racist. My grandparents came here from Germany. German was not spoken in their home, they spoke ENGLISH because they wanted to become AMERICANS. They didn't sit around and babble gibberish and call anyone who didn't learn their language racist. They didn't demand translations every where they went. They learned English.

Yeah, and what made me even madder used to be that they marketed the Democrat Debate and did not put it up for sale the Republican Debate. I did not even get to peer it. It's all that Dagom News stations. They're all Democratic besides probably FOX. Because their the one ones which might be virtually Republican. And I'll let you know what proper now, if we get a Democrat as President, this nation is solely gonna move down hill from there. Once they are attempting to give up that warfare and in the event that they do, the ones Al Quiada idiots shall be proper again right here killin extra humans. It's only a entire mess and God aid us all.

The reality of this country for 230 years has been that the first generation of immigrants (assuming that they are not coming from an English-speaking country) pick up a limited degree of fluency in the English language. Prior to telecommunications becoming the main media, most of these communities had a native language newspaper which reported the news about politics to these communities. Now that there is cable, Spanish-language networks (and other networks servicing other communities) provide the same service.

It should not be surprising that candidates who want the votes of first-generation immigrants are willing to allow their debates to be translated into a language that these immigrants speak more fluently than English.

While you need to speak some English to be a citizen, first generation immigrants will never be as fluent in English as in their native tongue. English is what they use when speaking to people outside their community. Their native tongue is what they use in talking with their friends and neighbors.

Don't worry, this has happened with every other group of immigrants. By the third generation, most of them will not know more than a handful of phrases of their grandparents native language.

The bleeding heart liberals are trying to get votes any way they can. Dems tax us to death to pay for welfare, which is a huge reason we've got so many illegals. I've no problems with legal immigrants as long as they work, pay taxes, and follow the rules. Unfortunately, I don't think that's the majority....

I dated an Hispanic girl who could speak English and with whom I could carry on a conversation. However when it came to something like the news or a debate she was more comfortable hearing it in Spanish. She comprehended it better and she is a US citizen. There are many others like her.

It is a crock, and Americans should loudly let their DNC leaders know that they will not stand for it! But they will not.

Eric...My wife is first generation born in America. Her parents immigrated here legally from Mexico, as did others in her family. 100% of her family and friends detest illegals and have turned some in demanding that they be deported. Are you going to call THEM racists, too?

Woman...check your facts. To be a citizen you either must be born here, or take and exam IN ENGLISH! There are NO citizens who do not speak English!

The debate was aired on Univision. That's a Spanish language channel.

You have to be a citizen to vote, but if your first language was Spanish, you would have been able to watch the debate aired on Univision and understand it better. Who's to say there aren't plenty of people who are learning English but still understand their native language better?

She does speak and understand english but she is more comfortable in spanish and she is a US Citizen. As me I prefer english all the way when it comes to news and newspapers. The only time I prefer spanish is in music.
