Maybe something like Shaan. It is a muslim name which means pride and it people in the US have problems the will call him by Shaun because the pronounciation is very similar. Congrats on the baby boy by the way.

There are wonderful books out there with lots of baby names, and the best ones have some guidance on how to choose names that are different enough that a child won't be lost in a sea of children with the same name, but won't expose him to ridicule because the pronunciation sounds like another word, or the initials form an unfortunate association. (A boss I had hated that his initials were TRD, because kids used to mock him.)
There's a lot of range in what's acceptable in the US these days, so you might be able to find something that fits with your heritage but sounds good to American ears. You might want to write down some favorites and say them out loud a lot to see how you like the sound of them. You might also want to ask some friends who are Americans to say the names (both first and last together, and the first name alone) to see if American accents are going to turn it into a name that sounds completely different from what you intend. (And maybe you should try this with two friends at once -- one listening for anything that sounds funny or like some word you wouldn't want associated with your son.)
Perhaps you might consider giving him a middle name with a lot of options for nicknames so if at some stage in life he feels awkward about his name he'll have many choices in finding a name that feels right, without walking away from his name completely. (And going through an awkward stage like that doesn't mean he'd be unhappy with his heritage -- I feel that most people are a little unhappy with their names. The ones with fancy names wish they had plain ones, and the other way around; much the same way that people with curly hair wish they had straight, and the straight-haired people wish for curls. It's just human nature.)
Good luck with finding the perfect name!

I like this one:
DARIUS: This name is pronounced Dariyush In modern and Darayavahoush in ancient Persian. In modern Persian the name can be easily translated to Dara-ye-Hoosh which means person who is smart and highly clever. Smartness and cleverness in English relates directly to being charismatic. Therefore the name given to the first super administrator in history of mankind describes very well his brilliant personality and talent.

I like the name Darius as well, I've known a few and they've all been wonderful people.
But keep in mind, whatever name you do choose should be perfect for your family and its' values. Try not to focus on others' closed mindedness or ignorance.
Good luck and congrats!
