When im finished with my PS3 should i turn it off by the switch on the back or should i just shut off the console by the controller and leave the red light on? I heard using the switch eventually hurts the system! But i dont wanna leave the red light on if that will hurt it.

It depends really. If you are just shutting it off for a short time, like you played late, and need to get some shut eye, and then are going to play tomorrow, use the standby mode. Otherwise, if you arent going to play it for a couple of days or something like that, use the switch and power it all the way down. It is hard on the system to shut it down all the way and power it up several times, but however, you dont want to let it just sit in stand by for any real length of time. I would suggest if you think you arent going to play it for more than say 24 hours or so, turn it off...let it rest...otherwise, use the stnadby mode for optimum life span.

I generally use the switch in the back. That way I know it's OFF as opposed to being in a standby mode.
