Yeah sure, especially the factory overclocked versions or if you overclock it some more.

Be sure that it is also not bottlenecked by slow processors.

if you are looking into the 8600 series, I would suggest the BFG Tech 8600GTS OC, its factory overclocked which is better then the standard 8600gt, if you have the extra money as in 75-100 bucks more i would go for the 8800GTS superclocked from EVGA(they have a 90day step-up program) or BFG Tech 8600gts OC.. 8800s are just ridiculously awesome. i just did that today actually and i notice a HUGE difference in benchmarks and in games.

btw yes its good for gaming :D but if you cant get a 8800 i would suggest the X1950pro its better then the 8600 series.

Good for gaming might be a bit of a stretch.

Yes it is a solid midrange card and you will be able to play any current games and pretty much any upcoming games on it...

However, you are not likely to be able to play them at maximum settings as the 8600GT is midrange but not a gamer card. If you are looking for a little better gamer card I would look at the 8600GTS or 8800 line but of course those are more money.

So....good for gaming, not exactly

Sufficient for gaming, yes, it will get the games running and let you play (provided the rest of the machine is okay :)

The best card for around $100-120 is the x1950pro. It absolutely stomps the 8600gt or 8600gts in every benchmark.

Here is an interactive chart that shows video cards at various detail levels in certain games. The blue lines are the 8600gt VS the x1950pro.
