I think Vancouver has a great chance in the next 2-3 years.

All these people who say that they need goals..........didn't watch the New Jersey Devils in 2000 or 2003. The Devils were in the bottom half of the NHL in offense in both years, and still won the cup.

They have a good chance once they free up some cap space when Nasland and Morrisons contracts run out. Then they'll be able to get the scoring they need to back up Luongo. The twins by then will have enough experience to carry the team properly. Cause they're carrying the team right now give them a couple of years and a proper line mate. And once Nasland and Morrison are either getting payed what they are worth or they're gone then Nonis could build the offence around the twins. He's already got the defense built solid around Salo, Bieksa, Ohland, Mitchel, Sopel. The goaltending is solid. Vancouver has the best goalie in the west by far. Luongo will take them to the finals. He just needs somebody to score for him because he'll keep them in the game. Not this season unless they free up enough cap space or they find another diamond in the rough like they found in Anson Carter the season before last somebody who could play good with the twins. Mind you the canucks might have a big year from Nasland cause it's his contract year. So hopefully next year they'll go the finals and have a legitimate shot at the cup.

I'm a Canucks fan, but I don't think they will win the Cup next year, unless 2 miracles happen and Naslund scores 40 goals and Morrison gets 70 points. Yes, they have a very solid defense, with Ohlund, Salo, Mitchell, Bieksa, Miller, Krajicek, and maybe Bourdon, Trembley, or Edler. Goalie is Luongo, enough said. Up front though, Canucks simply don't have enough proven scoring forwards (of late, anyway) producing consistently throughout the year or playoffs. Their leading playoff scorer last year was Trevor Linden. That certainly can't happen if the Canucks are going to take a run at the Cup. 9.5 million dollars (Nas and Mo) should be getting you top line offense in the NHL. They need to produce like McDonald and Selanne did for the Ducks last year. Then the cheaper players on the team need to step up and score big goals too (Sedins- 3.5 million each) like Getzlaf, Perry, and Penner did for the Ducks. I understand the Sedins are probably top line for the Canucks right now, but Naslund and Morrison need to at least be close to their production from last year when they make that much dough.
I'd say the Canucks will have a much better chance at the Cup after this year when Naslund and Morrison are UFAs and they can sign them to cheaper contracts or let them go to sign other players (oh please...Heatley...please). That way the Canucks will have cap room to upgrade their team and not be right up at the cap ceiling.
Also, if young players like Grabner, White, Raymond, can come up and make an impact at a low salary, it helps the team bring in more veteran imapct players with the cap space.

Shane- I thought that Sopel wasn't resigned. I might be wrong about that though.

YES!!!! Finally people start thinking the Canucks will have a chance to win the cup. It will happen in the next two to three years. Why? Because of their best defensive core in the league and the best goalie the NHL has seen. The offensive I have to admit, is a bit thin, but players like Jannik Hansen bring plenty of promise. GO CANUCKS GO!!

Wow, you like to touch yourself in public??? Whatever floats your boat, xD

The Canucks do have a chance to win a Cup, but they NEED more offense. They definitely won't win this year, they haven't signed any scoring threats in the offseason. Perhaps after this year, if they get a couple of guys capable of scoring 50-60 pts. in a season, they will have an extremely good chance at winning the Cup. But they won't have a chance until they pick up at least one good scoring forward. So, yeah, in the next two or three years, their chances look good.

Unfortunately the Canucks are an early 70's expansion team that has been left out of Cup contention by the manipulation of games in Canadien teams favor.

The Canucks are I believe the only Canadien team not to have ever won a Stanley Cup, and with the current trend of US market teams winning the cup, I do not see the Canucks winning the big one, which is unfortunate because they are my fav west coast team.

Until they can generate some offense, they wont' win. You cna't win games that you don't score in. But everything else is there. Great D, Great goalie. But the Sedins are pretty much alone as young effective scorers. You need a few top 6 forwards to win. And they haven't done that this offseason, unfortunately for you.

I think they have as good a chance as anyone.

They have a great goalie in Roberto Luongo

They have a great up and coming defense with Krajicek and Bourdon. Bieksa is only 26 as well.

The Sedins are only 27 and coming into their prime. Alexandre Burrows and Ryan Kesler are young.

If they can continue to round out the roster with solid talent, and Luongo can continue to be stellar, they will be competitive

I'd have to agree with the no offense opinion shared by a few; the Sedins were useless last playoffs and Naslund isn't what he used to be...

without some offensive ability; it won't matter how good Luongo is, because eventually the other team is going to score if you can't....

CANUCKS WILL WIN THE STANLEY CUP WITHIN THE NEXT 4 YEARS. LUONGO WILL CONTINUE TO KICK *** AND THE DEFENCE WILL BE BEYOND PERFECT. ALL THEY NEED TO WORK ON IS THERE OFFENCE. THE SEDINS CAN PRODUCE GOOD PASSES WHILE NASLUND AND MORRISON SCORES. I AM HOPING THAT THEY WILL TRADE NASLUND IF HE DOES NOT GET 35+ GOALS THIS SEASON. WE COULD GET A BETTER PLAYER THAN THAT. EVERYTHING ELSE IS GOOD....... JUST THE OFFENCE LACKS PERFECTNESS.
IF NOT, I'M GOING TO HAVE A BEARD DOWN TO MY TOES.
