He's had one winning season since 2000, he's rarely shown the ability to produce on the defensive side of the ball, and his "old school" coaching pretty much pushed his star running back into retirement.

For all his supposed toughness and discipline, his defensive group is yet again a study in disorganization and ineffectiveness.

Why not try going with someone who can actually win some games?

They have gotten too old on defense, they have also drafted poorly and been forced to take retreads from the waiver wire to fill spots. While Coughlin is a horrible coach and should be fired, they will wait until their season is done (week 4 with that defense) before they make any moves. Their offense has a lot of talent but Plaxico will go Plaxico by week 4 like he always does and you will not see or hear from him for the rest of the season! They are built to win just enough games to be in playoff contention...not to win in the playoffs, just squeak in or be barely squeezed out...if I am a Giants fan I am outraged right now, they can not compete in their own division right now.

The Giants improved from about 5 to 11 victories in Coughlin’s three seasons with the team. Last year, the Giants went 8-8 and earned an NFC Wild Card playoff spot for the second consecutive season. Coughlin has won three division titles and led his teams to the playoffs six times in his 11 years as NFL head coach. He is placed 7th among all the NFL coaches... give the man some credit.
* although, I'd have to say with the defense looking like they looked tonight, I'd almost have to agree with you : )

I think it's mostly a question of "who's available to replace him"? The Giants hierarchy is pretty "old school" so I don't see them hiring some young assistant to be their head coach. They'll most likely stick with " the old boys network". Cowher? Schottenheimer? Parcells? There's not a lot out there.
