NOT CRAIG'S LIST! If you go to a call from Craig's List, take your pepper spray and a friend because you just do NOT know what you may be getting into. Yes, some calls are legit but some are shady! Also no matter where you hear about the call, do NOT sign anything unless you understand what it is you are signing. You may be giving them the right to tape your audition then use the footage without compensating you!

The most reliable place to get audition info without an agent is www.actorsaccess.com and www.backstage.com. These sites are THE industry standards and are the most widely used in Los Angeles. Backstage is also used in NY but I'm not sure about actorsaccess. AA comes from BreakdownServices which is the casting service used by every single agent in town. Both are free to check them out, but to get all the info on Backstage you'll have to subscribe or sneak a peak at the bookstore every Thursday when the new issues come out. AA you can see the info, but you pay if you want to submit electronically for an audition (no charge if you plan to mail the headshot in yourself aka send a hardcopy). However, if you subscribe to yet another industry standard service here in LA, Showfax which is about $68 per year then you can submit all you want on AA while you are a Showfax subscriber. That's a good deal as long as you live in an area where there are a lot of auditions for you. Showfax is a sides service so when you have an audition, if sides (script pages) are available you can get them through this service and not have to drive all over town to pick them up (ala 15 years ago! OMG!)

This is how it's done until you get an agent.

good luck

Unfortunately most casting agencies aren't trust worthy in person so all the internet does is complicate the issue, If you are starting out just go directly to the audition and skip the casting agency if possible. If you live in LA or NY you should have no problems. Check out Variety too. Also start with extra work so that you can get a feel of the process.

I still think though, that taking classes with a good teacher is the best way to start the networking cycle as you will hear about auditions from others students.

you cant trust any of them there are no roles open to inexperienced nobodies. it takes years of experience and training to be an actor

www.mandy.com - Tv and Film
www.playbill.com - Stage
www.craigslist.org - Everything

Those work pretty well.
