Planta grow in the soil because they have the ability to take up the micro nutrients contained there. They then combine those nutrients through chemical reactions using sunlight, water and Carbon dioxide. Specialized plant parts each have a role in the process...called photosynthesis. Plants fertilize themselves through a process called pollenation. Usually plants reproduce through sexual or asexual means. Asexual is whre a clipping makes a new plant. Sexual is where a spore of a seed is produced through the combining of a pollen grain containing a sperm nuclei combines with a egg conbined in the ovule. usually water, wind, insects or other vectors help carry the pollen to the ovule.
