As I get older and see and experience more of the things he wrote about in his songs, yes, his songs can make you cry. When I hear his earlier works of family and friends, it makes me wish my Dad were still alive. He loved JD's music.

JD was a remarkable songwriter. My favorite JD song is "This Old Guitar" because in three simple verses he was able to encompass his whole life.

The way he died was sad. He crashed his plane into Monterrey Bay almost 10 years ago. His life was on an upswing at that time. He had just signed a new recording contract and a few months later, he won a Grammy for a children's album he had been working on. It was the only Grammy he ever won.
