I would venture to say that if Christ were anything, it would have been a moderate conservative. The liberals (of today) demand that the government provide everything under the sun with little regard to what was actually earned. This mentality is enslaving in as much as it removes the desire to fight and acheive. The people then, become complacent, lazy and completely dependent upon their government for everything. (See those left behind in New Orleans after Katrina)
Today's liberals also are tolerant of "Anything Goes." And are offended when someone suggests that something such as a particular lifestyle should not be allowed.
To claim the Pharasees were conservative is a sham and a farse. It's the liberal left that wants more government. More regulation over everything including our everyday lives. The Pharasees too were responsible for over regulating the citizens. They instituted some 2,000 + laws (making in next to impossible to comply with every nit picking law). AND, what's more, just like most politicians of today, but especially the liberal left who tolerate people such as Ted Kennedy (killed his date and was never brought to justice), Bill Clinton who among the many other things stole the retiree pensions from those who trusted him in Whitewater (never convicted, but they did see fit to revolk his law license just the same. Hmmmm) and La. senator Jefferson with $90K in bribe money in his freezer -- circle the wagons boys, we need to defend these guys to the bitter end!!!, the Pharasees were all about protecting their seat of power. Which is why Jesus HAD to go. He called them on their hypocrisy.
Christ, on the other hand, preached that we should teach the poor to fish so that they can then provide for themselves. Of that particular life style, God commanded Moses to stone any such people. And Christ taught (per Paul in the book of Romans) that this (lifestyle) is wrong. The difference being (of a lot of today's conservatives (read "Christians"), that Christ also taught to love the sinner, not the sin -- they just don't get that. But, Christ's teachings are a direct threat and are completely contrary to the liberals of today.
No, Christ was a moderate conservative who chose to hang out with liberals to try and teach them what their parents never did -- right from wrong.

Conservatives give more to charity. That's a fact. Cons are simply fighting the stereotypes that Liberals throw at them. It's not that conservatives do not want to help the poor, but rather the method. We believe that Liberal policies have been destructive. All you have to do is look at how we now have generations of poverty and an increase in violence since Lydon Johnson's Great Society.
We have Catholic schools that educate our children for much less than public schools, for example, and the children are much more prepared. It seems like liberals want to give children excuses instead of preparing them. I am dating a public school teacher who is furious at the way her school coddles children and turns them loose in society with little or no discipline. Does that make her mean? What a joke.

I agreed with all of that except the part about Martin Luther being a liberal. Martin Luther was a sexist pig who happened to stick it to the Cathoic church.

edit -- Jesus was so a liberal. The conservatives of his day were the Pharises who were against Jesus. They wanted to keep things at the status quo, which is what all conservatives want. Jesus was a rebel to them much like the hippies were in the 60s to a lot of the older generation. Maybe some of you need a refresher at Sunday School. When it comes to Jesus it isn't what Jesus taught, it is the dynamic he created with those in power at the time.

Liberal today means socailism not the caring for the needy. Liberals today want to create a gov't that will take care of everyone from cradle to grave with the gov't making all desicions. You know what to eat, what to drive or where to live. Thay tried it in Russia and everyone was miserable. Thats what liberal means today.
