My husband and I had a similar problem with silverfish last summer. We successfully controlled the situation in a rather short time. Here are some things that will help:

*They are attracted to moisture so if you have the means, run a dehumidifier in your basement. We didn't have the dough to buy a dehumidifier, so we got "closet dehumidifiers"--they look like little tupperware containers with a plastic grate for a lid and you can get them at wal-mart--and placed them in every closet in the house and under all the sinks.

*They are also attracted to paper products and clothing. We cleared out all of our excess paper clutter and made sure loose papers were stored properly. We also packed our sweaters and sweatshirts into large rubbermaid containers and placed moth repellent sachet packets in the containers and in all of our dresser drawers (these things rock b/c they don't smell like mothballs and they repel all kinds of creepy crawlies, not just moths). We also hung moth repellent in every closet in the house--You can get this in the form of a disk attached to a mini hanger; it's very convenient.

*Throw away any cereal or other boxed dry food that has been opened and hanging around for a while. They are attracted to that as well.

*The last thing we did was hit up Lowe's for some heavy duty products. We got an insect repellent made specifically for silverfish, centipedes, milipedes, etc. that you spray at every entryway into your home and into any other cracks or crevices where they may be entering. If the problem is severe, you can also buy bug bombs at Lowe's. You will need to plan on being away from your home for a full 24 hours or more--especially if you have young children and/or pets. My husband and I bought the bombs but never used them b/c the problem cleared up after we did the previous suggestions I offered.

These are the things that really worked for us. I hope you find them helpful!

Spray Raid, preferably the outdoor kind, all along the outside corners of the door. This worked to keep away the lizard/gecko problem I had.

If Arizona wanted them or their sympathizers they would hand out free tacos at the border. It's about time states are fighting back against illegal alien criminal invaders. I plan to vacation in Arizona and so do MANY others.

Try hedgeapples cut in half laid all around your foundation. The Orkin man told me if you were going to have a bug, centipeeds are the best because they eat other things. They are creepy so I understnad. I've also just shot them with a huge dose of cheap hairspray from the Dollar Store. Doesn't keep them from coming in but kills them when they do.

get a couple of medium sized scorpions. they will catch and eat the centipedes (and flies, and spiders, and ants, etc) in your house. leave a little bowl of water out for them too. scorpions need water.

Well, pick one up and eat it. That's right, eat it in front of all of its friends so they will know what you are serious, and they will leave. Just like that, your problem is solved.
Have fun daddy
