A beginner skier or snowboarder who has no clue as to what they're doing on the mountain. They crash all over the place and get in your way. Referred to as a gaper because of the gap between their hat and goggles, also known as a gaper-gap.

You know those people that you see on the mountain wearing blue jeans, a neon green jacket from 1985, rear-entry ski boots, and circa-1980 220 Atomics, those people are gapers. They are also prone to numerous yard sales, and can easily be identified by the trademark "Texas Death Wedge" style of skiing. They also normally wear bright colored hats that make them look like Sonic the Hedgehog. Us locals also used to call them "Tourons" as in moron tourists.

A gaper is what any person who uses the term was last season.

As with any slightly derogatory expression its use says more about the person using it than the subject.

(See "little dick syndrome")
