Most likely your daughter will hate her middle name just like you did growing up. But most likely she will love it later on because it will remind her of you and her great grandma....
It is a middle name and how often one knows someone's middle name unless you are very close!
I think it is a lovely name and you should go for it!

Oh I would use it but now I love the name! One of my good friends has that name, and ever since meeting and getting to know her I've started to appreciate it. We almost used it for our second daughter's middle name but chose different one to honor another family friend.
Louise is one of those old-fashioned names that really is very pretty and would be a lovely compliment to many first names. Yet it's not too popular like Madeline or Amelia. I can understand how you felt embarassed - as children we often feel that way if we have something that is different about us... but often when we grow up we realize that the thing that was so different is actually great! If you name your daughter that... it would keep the name in the family and... the older, old-fashioned names are so popular these days... I've been meeting lots of little Eleanors and even two Ethels! Now back in the day, those names would seem kinda weird and more grandma-like ... today they are being embraced... so I don't think the middle name Louise would feel so different for your child - IMO! :)

Yes, pass it on. Traditional names are great! Besides, let your child feel the adolescent insecurity and unfounded shame you felt about it. Mostly you think it sounds old lady is because it's mostly an old lady's name. How many people have a little girl named Opal, or a grandma named Tiffany? They don't, that's why. I like the name Louise, and you should keep it alive. It's not you were named Dorcus or Hortense or Drusilla or something really embarrasing like that. . . .

i like the idea of using middle names as family names. however, i think its important to like the name you give your child. she may have the same reactionto her name growing up and being embarrassed about your name (which is your identity) is not a good feeling. an alternative could be to combine two family names. for example i had a friend who named her daughter Leatrice (i dont care for it) but it was a combo of Leah and Beatrice which are the child's grandmothers. she goes by Lea. could you use "Lou"-(something)? just a suggestion. if not and you really want to stick with the idea, i think louise as a middle name is great. i find that it is a really common one too.

I love the name Louise.
If you don't like it, though, and would feel bad giving it to your daughter, then don't do it. Passing on a name for sentimental reasons is a lovely thing to do, but not if you feel bad doing it.

I think you should go with it. There is too little tradition in America. I think it is refreshing to see someone trying to stick to /start a tradition. Every male in my family has the middle name of Franklin. I didn't like it as a kid, but know i love it, because it's something special that all the males in my large family have to share together. Its great because we currently have four generations. I say go for it. You are only a child a very small portion of your life.

Depends on if your family has an expectation that you would do that ... does some inheritance from "aunt Louise" depend on your child be accepted by the family? If so then do it ..otherwise just pick something you like..

I think it is a good name and is refreshing compared to Grace and Rose that are so over used. If you don't like it though don't use it. Find out you grandma's middle name it might be something you like.

Only use Louise if it's something YOU want to do...not if family members are trying to guilt you into it.
