A negative exponent just means the reciprocal. Like this:
a^(-b) = 1/(a^b)
So
2^(-2)=1/(2^2) = 1/4

for n.0, 2^-n means 1/(2^n)

so 2^-2 = 1/(2^2) = 1/4

You should know the following relation COLD
2^-2 = 1 /(2^2)
This is the "reciprocal rule"

to cancel out the negative you put the number under 1

ex 2^-2 =1/2^2 or 1/4

ex 3^-2=1/3^2 or 1/9

i have no idea why this works thuogh
