Pretty much everything you wear is a polymer of some type. You can start with the evolution of modern polymers from rayon to nylon to the polyesters.

Think of items with poly- in their name. Polyethylene (low density) is used for food wrapping and plastic sheeting. High density polyethylene is used for pipes, canoes and other waterproof materials with high strength. Polypropylene is used for ropes that will float. Polystyrene is used as styrofoam for coffee cups and building insulation. Poly-vinyl chloride (PVC) is used for many items: pipes, housewares, raincoats, garden hoses, shower curtains and in the old days phonograph records.
