I have grown wheatgrass for years and have always wondered where the seeds come from. The grass doesn't live long enough to produce seeds in my experience with it.

They are just the grains of the wheat. They come from mature ripened wheat plants.

Where do you live that the plants don't grow well? Are you ...what? In some cold zone? Have bad soil? Trying to grow them in a window box?

Start them in the fall. They generally grow into the winter and the young plants then continue to grow in the next spring. Its often called winter wheat. Its about time to plant it now. Try again. Don't think its dead just beacuse it went dormant.
