MTV knew. MTV let her on stage. MTV spun the Criss Angel thing and didn't deliver. MTV set her up because it benefits them! They get the trainwreck publicity. They and Ok! magazine have learned that it's fun to set people up to fail. It's a new way of exploiting people who are already down.

Maybe Britney's people paid MTV to let her perform. MTV probably thought it would be a good idea because everyone wants to see Britney perform after so many years. MTV probably did do it for ratings but it should have been better for an opening performance. I do agree with you....it was a horrible performance, compared to her other VMA performances in the past that were really creative and good. She needs more time to get her stuff straight.

Britney Spears was to perform under the magic of Chris Angel... but MTV freaked out at the last minute finding out what Britney was actually going to do.
Supposidly, what Britney and Chris were planning was to do a set of mirrors and flotation. But when told to the Palms Hotel/Casino... the hotel flipped.
Insurance was the main problem, and the stage couldn't support the performance. MTV also freaked at the last minute because of their fear of being "too controversial" during the performance. Britney and Chris were infact furious with MTV's sad excuse and told Britney to change the performance at the last minute.
Britney's original performance was to infact appear and disappear. To float through the air... and for much mature dancing

Yes, absolutely. That is what they do, they build them up then they like to watch the fall. It is really a sick middle school prank in a way.
I am not a huge Britney fan, however, I AM a human being and that was so awful to watch.
They made her change her performance at the last minute, all the while knowing that they would be sending S.Silverwitch out to mock her. It is not funny to be so cruel and say such inappropriate things regarding someone's children.
S.Silverwitch...karma is a...(it rhymes with witch)...and you deserve all the misery you get from being a manic depressive... get some treatment for your obvious mental health issues.. and quit picking on people.

I think Britney screwed this up all on her own.
Britney could have made that performance great, she is Britney Spears after all.
But I think she just threw it together at the last minute. It was a sad attempt to promote herself for the album she is dropping in November.
Personally,I think Kanye West should have opened the show.

She looked bored or half asleep at times and should NOT have worn that outfit. She looked like she was going to fall over during half the dance moves.
I was hoping she would come out and kill it, but she failed.

I doubt they planned for her to fail, but i'm sure they were hoping she'd make a azz of herself. It makes for better ratings and keeps the buzz around the show.

You wouldn't want to move if you were that fat in that outfit. Leave her alone.
And this VMA is a disgrace.

her performance was lazy to me to be honest. she just let people dance around her while she lipped singed. she should have been working hard instead of partying hard, then her performance would have been amazing!!
