Look into Yo-yo Loaches! They are the greatest fish you will ever find! They act like Clown Loaches (that get a foot long), but Yo-yos only get about 4-5 inches long. They love to swim in shoals (preferably 5) and they will chase each other through the tank and play "tag" (but they don't nip). You could get about 15 Glofish, 5 Yo-yos, and maybe even some Badis Badis. I would suggest some natural color gravel, live plants, and maybe CO2 depending on the plants you want to keep. Check out this article about CO2 if you are interested. Email me if you have any questions. http://www.fishlesscycling.com/articles/co2_discussion.html
Soop Nazi
EDIT: Oscars are not suitable for anything less than 55 gallons because they are pooping machines and grow to more than a foot long...

I'm a fan of tropical fish, but if you don't live somewhere with a tropical climate, you'll need a special heater to keep the tank water at the right temperature. I'm also really into corys and since they come in all kind of varieties (albino, bronze, panda, neon, pink, peppered, etc,) I reckon they never get boring to keep. The fun is trying to find loads different stores, to find the different varieties. They are shoaling fish, so should be kept in groups of at least six, in order to be happy, so with a tank like yours, you should be fine. You could try to breed them, of just try to keep lots of different types and since I've never seen them segregate themselves from other corys of a different species (albinos don't stay away from the bronze guys, they all mix in together like a happy little clan) I'd think they'd all be pretty happy!
This is a good source of information about their temperament and what sort of water/tank conditions they like: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corydoras
The best of luck!

see copperhead's answer.. the main distinction is proportions of the tank.. as pronounced the 30 gallon is greater powerful for greater desirable issues or ones that choose greater room.. no longer purely on account that's a gallon greater desirable

if you get gold fish, you can get maybe 2 or 3. remember that they will get big, and i wouldn't reccomend putting any other fish in with the goldfish, the amount of amonia that goldfish give off is enough to kill alot of fish.
or
an oscar would be perfect for a 29 gallon, there are all different types too , so you can choose one.
or
jewel cichlids are pretty too.
or
or angelfish. in a 29 gallon, you could put 4 angel fish in there.
good luck with your new tank!!

Tetra, all kinds of tetras. But I do like angelfish, and they don't normally go together. So, angelfish (4-5), cory cats (same species), kribensis (3-4), a couple of large gouramis (blue, gold, opaline, 3-spot, or pearl), or even smaller gouramis (dwarfs). And kuhli or yo-yo loach.
