I have been living in Brazil for the past 4 years, and worked before that in the nonprofit field for about 4 years. I really cant decide if I could be a good lawyer, or if I should go into Urban Planning. Do you think that law school is crazy for someone older than 25?

You sould like someone who has never heard of Urban Law.
Mix your passions and see what you can create.

Not at all!

At 49 I entered the seminary!

There's a quote I love:
If you go to law school, you'll be 34 when you get out.
If you don't go to law school, you'll still be 34 in 3 years, with no J.D.!

The main issues are:
1) Do you like the real, daily work that lawyers do?
2) Do you feel "called" to be a lawyer?
3) Do your talents fit the lawyer profile?
4) Are you willing to have 3 years of strict discipline + study + maybe mean teachers + tremendous reading & memorizing?

If you'd rather have easier classes & do a different type of work at the end, then go for the urban planning.

No. I was 41 when I started law school, and I was by no means the oldest person in my law school class. There were a few over 50 and one or two over 60. Of course, you need to realize that your career path may be a little different from that of someone who started law school at 22 (although 31 really isn't that old). Many of the big firms tend to hire younger associates, so you may be looking at smaller firms, government jobs, or solo practice, but all of my classmates who wanted to practice did so (I didn't, but that was my choice, since I had an established career).

No, age is no big deal. Lots of grad students are above 25 these days. I just finished my Ph.D. at 44. Don't worry about the age thing at all. There will probably be lots of law students older than you.

There's a bigger issue. Do you WANT to go into law? Or urban planning? Focus on that, and don't worry about age.

Hell NO!! Alot of older people are returning to school to better themselves. Does this sound ridiculous, I'm 46 and I'm pursuing a degree in nursing. I've been in college 2yrs now. And I love it. It broadens your horizons. So I say GO FOR IT!! you have nothing to lose and ALOT TO GAIN!!

I think, imo, that it is a fantastic idea. If that is what you truly want to do with your life.
