Here's a scenario: bottom of the 9th, two outs, game seven of the World Series and you're up by 3 runs. The hitter coming up has been locked in all series, virtually impossible to get out. Would you think about walking him?

Chipmaker, I didn't ask if it's ever been done; I know it's been done. I was asking if YOU would ever do it.

Yankeefonatic, if a guy has been that locked in (like, for example, A-Rod with his 7 homers over the last 5 games), do you really think you're going to be able to get him to swing at bad pitches?

Yeah, I'd walk him, especially if the batter following the one I wanted to intentionally walk was miserable. It cuts the lead two two, and there's FOUR bases an infielder could throw to, to get a force.

A batter is down 0-2 or maybe a million-2 interior the count extensive type with a stressful throwing strikeout form pitcher on the mound. The pitcher has all waiting struck out the 1st 2 batters. The pitcher comes to a decision to come back interior with a extreme fastball yet is geared up in too far and it glances off the catchers mitt in spite of the undeniable fact that the batter swung and missed for strike 3 yet takes first on the surpassed ball. The pitcher shrugs it off and strikes out the subsequent batter on 3 pitches.it is barely one scenario I even have considered take place.Being a Giants fan I even have witnessed Barry Bonds being issued an intentional bases loaded stroll previous due in a activity. One time it even forced interior the lead run.Any supervisor is stupid and could be banned for existence for calling a bases loaded stroll at any time.have self assurance on your pitcher and your protection. uncertain yet prepared to wager the IBB with the bases finished is rarer.

At a time like that I figure the guy is driving in AT LEAST one run anyway right. So yeah I walk him, depending who is after him, so that it is ONLY that run. That way I don't see a double or something and him bringing in MORE runs.
I disagree with the logic of Oh pitch and may the better team win. I say walking the dude is STRATEGY and may the SMARTER team win. If the other team truly was better then you would FEAR walking the guy. After all you would have to worry about the guy FOLLOWING who you walk. The better team will ALWAYS win, it is who is better in that game, which means who is SMARTER as well.

No, I would never intentionally walk a batter. I'd tell my pitcher to throw low strikes, and hope that the batter hits a ground ball, so that the fielders can make a play at any base, and retire the side.

yes, i would risk walking him if the batter behind him was the pitcher or a equally bad hitter. Then one run would score, but that's better than a grand slam.

If Its Bonds Or Ruth, I'd really consider it. Rather give up 1 than 4.

I would unintentionally intentionally walk him. Especially if the guy behind him wasn't doing so well.

Buck Showalter did. The batter was Bonds, the year was 1998 -- before he became BONDS!
That's how good he has been his entire career.
That's what the haters always want to avoid confronting. They cannot handle an honest discussion about him.
Oh, the move worked -- Bonds IBB'd in a run, the next batter lined out, the D'backs won.
