This an opinions question. I've read the first book, I've seen the movies, I've head all the arguments from both sides, so I don't need any background info. Do you think George and Kathy Lutz's Amityville Horror story was true? Based upon some truth? Or a fraud perpetrated upon the public to make money? And yes, I'm aware there have been questions on this topic before, but most of them have been from people requesting basic information. Thanks for your input, all opinions welcome.

I believe it was an answer to a problem.

Yes, the Lutzes bought that house for a lot less than it was worth because of the prior murder. However, they soon found themselves overextended in debt. They realized that this was a way they could get out from under that debt and even make some money in the process.

I think this is backed up by the fact that they had the Warrens of all people as their primary 'investigators'. People like them give mediums and spiritualists a bad name.

Just my opinion..

I think it was a hoax. The Lutzes were a fraud, it's too much to be believable. I didn't see the newest remake, but I heard it was terrible.

Any place that doesn't allow people to go check it out for themselves must be some sort of hoax. Personally, I would love to go and see for myself. If there is some sort of activity in the place like what was described, then why not allow people to go there? Who knows.
I know, let's get the Ghost Hunter guys to go. ;)

Hoax. I grew up in the next town over and no one around there believes it really happened.

I think it was based on some truth and expanded upon to make money.

It isn't true. The house is in tact but destroyed in the story. I am also very skeptical of, "Fire in the Sky."
