The green sticker is on the one helmet that has a receiver in it so that the coach can tell the quarterback what play to run. The sticker is there so that no one but the quarterback uses a helmet with the receiver in it. ;) silly boys.

The quarterback has an earpiece so He can get signals in from the coaches in the booth. There can only be one person on the field who has communications with the sidelines at one time. If a backup is brought in to play a receiver then to throw a pass, he cannot have communications with the sideline. It's basically a way so the referees know who has communications ability.

Those other people have it wrong. The green sticker is a new rule in the NFL for this year. Those who wear the sticker will be entitled one do-over per half. When they use their allotted do-over, the sticker is taken away until the second half.

NFL teams can only have 1 player with a communication device on the field. Since the QB is the one that normally uses it, they get the sticker to show they have it.
