TFT is better. A 19 inch TFT is really 19inches measured diagonally versus a 19 inch CRTs 17.8 or so making for a larger display. It also weighs a lot less and takes up a lot less room.

Either.
TFTs are physically smaller for the same screen size, less power, perfect geometry tend to have higher resolutions, can be widescreen and are brighter.
CRTs are cheaper, deal better with multiple resolutions, reproduce colours better, blacks are actually black.
There is no right or wrong answer. If it was a clear cut decision one would have disappeared from the market.
Personally I prefer the TFT for the higher resolution , the smaller footprint and the widescreen.
Edit:
Why do people who have no idea what they are talking about answer questions?
Marcellus Wallace: A TFT is a LCD. All LCD monitors use TFT technology.
jorelle w: Wrong. CRTs will produce a true black. TFTs can only produce a dark gray The contrast ratio tells you how dark that gray is. CRTs have an infinite contrast ratio.
